Kid took the digital SAT early this year and scored mid-1500s (800 in Math) with just solving a few past papers a couple of weeks before the test and free resources. Did not take the essay section. Now, we need to take the SSAT/ISEE this fall/winter. Based on SAT scores, seems like prep is needed a bit for reading and writing prompts. Math is much stronger, it was an easy 800 in SAT.
Are there any websites/books with past tests closer to the actual SSAT or ISEE? I know everyone advises to start early but we cannot register or take the tests before September. Also, what resources would you suggest to work on writing prompts? I would appreciate if you could share any examples of prompts in the writing/essay section with me.
My kid has taken old SAT, new digital SAT, ISEE, and SSAT. Sign up for the SSAT and buy access to the digital test prep materials which are pretty good. The SSAT and the ISEE are both more challenging than old and new SAT and the group of test takers make the percentiles tougher.
Late response, but I recently took the SSAT, and received a high score (>90%). I certainly would say I didn’t have to do much prep (but that varies from person to person!), but the Princeton Review SSAT and ISEE review book has many helpful practice tests and testing strategies. Would also recommend Varsity Tutors for free tests For writing prompts, they will ask one general prompt and one personal prompt, and you can choose which to answer.
