It’s crunch time. The SAT is in 4 days and the PSAT is in 8. I feel great about my Math score and am hoping for 750+, Critical Reading is harder but I’m improving, and Writing I’m doing well on. But I’m really afraid that the essay will kill my score. I’m not a very good essay writer, especially abstract essays like “What is courage?” and “Do you believe that peace constitutes happiness?”

So, does anyone have any good tips on writing the essay? Anything at all helps, whether you’re telling me that a 5-paragraph essay is the way to go or that 82% of people who receive 12’s have cursive or that the 4th paragraph is what readers pay the most attention to (all true facts).

I don’t want to mooch, so here are some helpful facts for you:
People who ate mints while taking the SAT scored 5% higher than those who did not. That’s raising a 2000 to a 2100. I’m serious.
Math: many times, out of all the choices given to you, one is the answer, one is double the answer, and one is half the answer. So if you have no idea whatsoever, find the pattern and guess the middle.
