SAT Writing Question

Question:

By simply entering an Internet website or calling a toll-free number, (a catalog order can be placed) for almost anything from cheesecakes to fully equipped desktop computers.

Choices:

A) a catalog order can be placed

D) you can place a catalog order

The correct answer is D, but my concern is whether A is simply wrong, or that D is a better choice than A. If so, please enlighten me in what way is D better than A.

Thank you guys in prior.

D is correct because the sentence contains a dangling modifier without a subject immediately following the clause that can actually place the order. I just learned about this in an online sat writing course I’m taking. This is a common type of SAT writing question.

D is the correct answer because of dangling modifiers. If you used “you” in that context, you would describe the doer of that action. The doer has to be the subject that follows the action.
