SAT writing question

(No one was more pleased than I) when we heard that maria was offered the job she had worked so hard for.

This sentence is labelled by collegeboard as correct. However should the ‘I’ not be changed to ‘me’? I understand that the ‘I’ may have a tacit ‘was’ omitted -No was was more pleased than I (was) - but I have always been taught that these circumstances would only ever END a sentence. Here, it occurs in the middle.

Does anybody have a concrete grammar rule to deal with this?

In comparisons (esp w/linking “be” verbs!) both sides must be the same case–in this example, subjective case. Not sure who told you they must END a sentence; that’s patently false (although in this instance it does end a CLAUSE…).
