sat writing question

The belief that if you eat food containing(A) garlic, one will be(B) healthy was long judged superstitious but© is now thought to have scientific merit. No error(E)

i understand that (B) but if (B) were not there i would have thought (A) is wrong. isn’t containing could be replaced with which contains?

either case is correct.

Here, “containing” serves as a participal (part of the participial phrase “containing garlic”), which functions as an adjective modifying “food”.

“which contains” is a noun clause, functioning as an adjective for food, too. So it’s as well correct.

thank u very much
