SAT writing question?

Question: “Telephone companies supported the cause of financial independence for women by providing many with jobs such as a switchboard operator.”

The error is supposed to be in “a switchboard operator” but I don’t know why it’s wrong. Please help!

A switchboard operator is a person, not a job. It’s a subtle distinction we rarely make in everyday speech.

switchboard operator should be switchboard operators because of noun agreement. women = operators, not operator, which is one person

Thank you!!
