A few questions from the BB -

Though now one of the most famous abstract artists, (critics once ridiculed Jackson Pollock) for his technique of splattering paint on canvases.

Why is this incorrect?

Also I have another sentence I’m just confused about:

A volunteer organization, the Covington Soup Kitchen has been feeding needy families since 1977, distributing nearly a million pounds of food each year.

Isn’t nearly modifying a million pounds of food, which is a noun?

The first one.

Though now one of the most famous abstract artists, (critics once ridiculed Jackson Pollock) for his technique of splattering paint on canvases.

“One of the most famous abstract artists”. Who are they talking about? Jackson Pollock. Not the critics. The sentence makes it seem the critics are the famous artists.
So the sentence should read

Though now one of the most famous abstract artists, Jackson Pollock was once ridiculed by critics for his technique of splattering paint on canvases.
