SAT Writing thread

12-29 in Writing section with 35 Questions doesn’t test your ability to simplify sentences to make them more concise. Each sentence actually has an error or it doesn’t. While “written many” is not the optimal phrase, it’s still entirely correct.

what was the written many question?

@sat100:

was the “deep blue” section the one that contained the “suppose to” → “supposed to” and “the treasure abound in the National Museum…, from _____ to the shining India saphire?”

Anyone know if 29 is NE or not?

also, in that same section (the non-experimental), did the question about birds having something about skulls on there?

- was the answer A or E? (A being the “,or”, which is not necessary)

@PencilxBoxes
The error in 29 was in A because Chinese gardeners were compared to Italian Gardens. It should have been “those of Italian Gardens” or something similar.

Under pressure of her constituents, the governer… does anyone remember that one?

what did people put for the “Drawing off stories…he has written stories” one? was it A (drawing) or E(no error) or something else and why?
i put E because i thought A wasn’t necessary to change but idk

@ibelieveso I put no error as well

i put no error for the drawing one as well

@bob thanks for the explanation. I thought it would be no error but I am always hesitant to put ‘no error’ on #26-29. I just get paranoid and think the error is well hidden.

@tenacious, Deep Blue was the chess playing robot. The India sapphire one is probably experimental considering that I didn’t have that.

So much for 80 MC -2.5 so far.

So what’s the consensus for the # of no errors?

How many no errors did you guys get

3 here

10char

@sat100:

the india sapphire one was not a passage revision subject, it was a fix the error question (#2)

10 on writing section:

“Blank Blank” the house, dark clouds have formed.
anser choices: since i left, since leaving, after i left, and a few others.

Anyone remember the answer??

@brady, I’m pretty sure it’s since leaving. I also had a dilemma w/ that problem but if you think about since leaving sounds the best.

@Tomorrowsfuture
“Since leaving” is your answer? The prepositional phrase MUST have “I”. ______, clouds did this.
If you chose Since leaving, that phrase refers to the clouds. I chose “After I left” rather than “Since I left” because “Since I left” has potential confusion for a cause-effect relationship.

is the curve going to be harsh?

There is no way to determine how harsh/lenient the curve will be until all results are scored. You shouldn’t be worried about how the curve affects your score. When you get your scores, you also receive a 60 point range (30+ and 30-), so the curve isn’t an essential factor.
