is it better to have a high score in one section and an average one in the other
like a 790 in reading and 530 in math? or is it better to have two 660s
and will it hurt me if my scores vary that greatly?

I’m guessing it would be better to have two scores that are relatively equal and within range…
A 790 is FANTASTIC but a 530 could really hurt your chances considering how low it is in comparison to the University’s mid 50% of student scores. Two 660s puts you in the middle 50%.

I think that as long as you are close to the mid 50% range you should be fine in terms of acceptance. But if one of your scores is very low then it isn’t too promising.

But sats aren’t the only thing they look at… And there are people that are admitted with scores in the 500s

I hope I can get CR 790.

would it be better for it to be 790 in math and 530 in cr

Carnival, it doesn’t matter which way (Math or English) you lean. If it’s that much of a difference either way it’ll be a bit strange HOWEVER, the 790 would really make you stand out IMHO. It depends what other things you have going for you too. If your English grades in class were high than it should be no problem whatsoever! Hope that helped:)

carnivalkid43, you’re kind of beating a dead horse with that question. Unless you can interchange your SAT CR and math score, there’s not much merit in contemplating it. But, if I were to seriously consider the question, I’d say it’d probably be better to have a score that leans toward your intended career field. For example, if you were hoping to be an engineer, then, it would definitely be much better to have 790 SAT math.

i actually got a 790 on math and 530 on reading… applying as a finance major

I got a 530 on reading too! I’m applying as a kinesiology major.
