Sat..

If your SAT is above a 1300 are you safe?

what do you mean… i don’t think anyone is safe. these colleges are very tricky in their selection process, anything can happen w/out any guarantee. =/ all i can say is, best of luck!~

what I mean to say is are you considered competitive?

Check the CDS data for Vanderbilt, section C9, to see what the 25th-75th percentile scores were for freshmen entering in 2007-2008.

https://virg.vanderbilt.edu/virgweb/CDSC.aspx?year=2007

Remember, admission is not based solely on SAT scores.

For year 2008, according to the Vandy Admissions Blog, the admitted students’ ranges were:
SAT middle 50%: (CR & M) 1380 - 1540
ACT middle 50%: 31-34

midmo and others: based on 2008 SAT/ACT range and #'s admitted (23%), it seems as if Vandy just catapulted close to the selectivity of Wash U overnight…anybody know if a waitlist is being used as mentioned in an earlier Vandy Blog???

Holy Crap…1380-1540

if the middle 50% is between 1380-1540, they have to have a lower 25% to get those stats right?

Middle 50% 1380-1540 means that 75% or approximately 2700 of the the 3900 offered admission will have better than 1380 combined. Wha…What? SO that also means that around 900 or 25% will have less than 1380. The crazy part is that around 900 will also be better than 1540. UNBELIEVABLE! I didn’t know there were that many geniuses hanging around in the high schools. WOW. talk about selective. I believe Vandy has solidified their position as the Harvard of the South. Good Luck to all!

bball2008: Good analysis…and if you account for recruited athletes, EDI, EDII (which, IMO, had definitely lower stats), your RD stats are insane…but what will be interesting to see will be whether all of these rocket scientists end up attending…

I’m interested to see how many spots Vandy will jump in the rankings next year… im guessing with these new stats maybe top 10?

i think most colleges were up this year
the class of '08/'12 just dominates…

Remember, folks, that the stats for admitted students are almost definitely higher than the stats for the same class’s enrolled students. In other words, the 25-75 numbers for those students who matriculate in the fall will not be as high as these numbers indicate. Those of you who are worried that your scores are far down in the mid-50 range may not in fact be that low for the incoming freshman class.

The numbers we generally talk about, and the numbers used for USNews, etc. are from the CDS (Common Data Set), and those numbers are for enrolled students. It might also be useful to remember that CDS numbers do not report the mid-50 range of total SAT, but separate M and CR ranges. The same students do not always score equally high on both categories.

No, Amnesia, Vanderbilt will not jump into the top 10 of USNews next year. 25% of the total score for that ranking method is a subjective “peer review” score, and that score shows glacial response to changes in undergraduate programs. Other categories include retention rate, size of classes, alumni giving rate, graduation rate, etc. SAT scores are a small part of the ranking method. And even beyond all of that, the numbers being used to assemble this fall’s ranking report are from the class that enrolled as freshmen in fall 2007.

“Those of you who are worried that your scores are far down in the mid-50 range may not in fact be that low for the incoming freshman class.”

I think that the worry comes not from the discrepency b/t admitted v enrolled, but from the fact that those waiting for acceptances are now in a completely different category than they previously thought…Overnight, a match school has become out of reach…based on the accepted numbers…

^^^Everybody take a deep breath, relax, go see “Miss Pettigrew” or something similarly easy on the nerves…

Good luck to everyone waiting. I am happy to see that prospective Vanderbilt students really want to be there, and I really hope that all who really want to be there get the chance.
