Someone on my Christmas list is asking for satin pillowcases. I had no idea this was thing but I am learning. I went to my BB&B and they were out of stock on the sateen pillow cases. I can order on line, but I am concerned because they are made out of cotton. Do any of you use satin pillow cases and is there a brand you would recommend?
Thank you.
You’re certain they asked for “satin” and not “sateen”? As you’ve probably discovered by now, although they both have the same weave (4 over, 1 under), sateen typically describes cotton while satin describes silk or synthetic.
At BB&B we really like the Wamsutta Dream Zone 750 sateen sheets. I’ve discovered that the quality of cotton can vary significantly from batch to batch even with the same manufacturer and the exact same sheets though, so sheet recommendations are always hit or miss. We’ve purchased multiple Dream Zone 750 sheets over the past couple years and the quality has been consistent (not to say that couldn’t change, though).
hey tired already (love your screen name) – you’re sure they’re not asking for silk ones to preserve a blow out? That’s #1 on DD’s list. I found one at Amazon that had good reviews (better than the ones DryBar sells). Plus it has a cotton bottom so it won’t skitter off the bed.
She definitely requested satin, but the reason seems to be the same as the silk Classof2015 suggested - better for hair and skin.
I got some great silk pillowcases on Amazon for a very low price. They’re all I use and they stand up well to washing, even if I accidentally run them through the dryer. I’ve been using them for two or three years. Just filter on Amazon by the highest customer rating and see what comes up in your price range.
Sateen and satin are NOT the same thing. Sateen is cotton…satin isn’t. The point of the satin is that it is pretty slippery and won’t foul up your hair.
But really…this only works (in my opinion) for beauty shop hairdos with spray.
My mom had several, sets of satin pillowcases when she died…so I decided to try them. I really didn’t like them…they often caused the pillows to slide off the bed…and really, my hair still needed to be combed, and sometimes styled on the morning,

same as Classof2015 I believe.
My hairdresser told me to buy them as it keeps the hair from frizzing and splitting.
I have used them now for about 6 weeks and my hair looks silky in the morning now.
I like the cotton back as they do not slip off the bed.
