I have two options…to either take the SAT’s in March or June for the first time. I know UPenn looks at your first score. They claim they won’t judge you on it (if you choose not to submit it), but my feeling is better safe than sorry. I do not feel prepared for the March SAT, but I’m concerned that June would be too long to wait. If I choose early decision, the only time I could improve upon my SAT score would be in September of next year. Which option do you think would be better? Do people typically improve after taking the SAT multiple times?

Collegeboard doesn’t offer the SAT in September. They offer it in May, October and November in addition to the months you already mentioned, if you’re looking toward applying ED. Penn lets you take the SAT as late as November of your senior year, but you have to rush the scores if you take it in November.

“They won’t judge you on it if you choose not to submit it”? Penn wants you to submit all your scores, so you’re really not exactly supposed to score choice and hide your first test if you do not so good on it.

Typically, people do do better when they take the SAT the second or third time around. But that is granted by the fact that you actually practice for it. You still have one month to practice for the March SAT, which is definitely enough time. But if you really feel like you’re not ready for it in March, then take it in May or June.

If you send the SAT, you are also required to send two subject tests, so leave time for that as well.
