<p>I think that they should go back to relying more heavily on SATs. Grades don’t mean anything…I think you all know that each teacher, and especially each school, has their own idea of what different grades mean. The SATs let students compete at the same game, at least.</p>
<p>Grades do mean everything, because it’s a measure of your competence over a total of four years… not just one Saturday morning. Bitter.</p>
<p>SATs are supposed to be a loose measure of intelligence. Anyone can pull of straight As with hard work at all the public highschools in my area. Not everyone can pull off a 2200+ in 3 or fewer sittings, regardless of studying. All GPA shows is how hard one is willing to work in school. A 2400 shows that one is smart. Colleges want hardworking smart students. Penn is no walk in the park, and to maintain high enough grades for grad school, one must not only work his ass off, but also be smart enough to keep up with the truly briliant students.</p>
<p>But it’s a truth that colleges especially Penn look more closely at grades than they ever would at SATs.</p>
<p>the problem with sat’s is that you can buy a better grade by just taking a class. don’t they have like a 200 gaurantee at most places where you pay like 1000 bucks. Its unfair to underprivledged kids who can only afford to take it once or cant afford some class</p>
<p>^You don’t think Penn and other colleges don’t know this? They realize that tax bracket has influence over SAT scores, and don’t hold it against low income applicants for getting bellow a 2000, especially since they are most likely to take the test only once.</p>
<p>umm…the SAT is probably the weakest assessment of somebody’s smartness. It is ignorant to believe that at a test u take at a remote location, on a saturday morning at 8:00 AM, for four and a half hours long predicts ur intelligence.</p>
<p>ha I laugh at such a statement, and I don’t say that because I got a 1940 (which I am proud of :P), but kids at my school who are really smart scored below me.</p>

<p>low sats are just rare cases; if you look at the majority of those accepted, they do have high SATs.</p>
<p>you can’t just use few examples and generalize for the whole population of people who are accepted!</p>

<p>people with above 2000+ scores at my school are the only ones that would even bother to research into colleges, the rest will go to local or community colleges.</p>
<p>its hard to get accepted if u dont apply, and thats the case at my school (meaning only top 15% students actually care where they go)</p>

<p>thousands of kids at penn have super high sat scores && rly high gpas. in the end, they will have succeeded wherever they went, they just wanted to be at penn. the schools looking for ppl who are interested in being there and taking advantage of their opps. in short, interesting & passionate ppl. just because they cant “reason” like the sat says they should doesnt make them un-musical genii, or un-skilled artists, or un-talented writers, etc.

<p>Be glad we are in American and not overseas. India, Korea, China, Japan, and other countries have a university system completely based upon test scores. Only in the US can one overcome a bad SAT and still get into an Ivy.</p>
<p>lol ipoder cause i only took the thing once and well the sat is not a strong measure of intelligence simply because you can study for it, prepare for it, and score significantly higher by doing so. That seems like hard work and not sheer intelligence</p>
<p>sats dont mean everything, but theyre def. important. while theyre not the only reason someone gets in, they were just one reason penn iseven willing to look at an app at all. I feel like a good sat opens the doors for admissions, but doesnt do anything beyond that</p>

<p>what exactly does it tell us? because there are plenty of hs where no kids get above 2050 and plenty where a great deal get much higher. so ur point is…?</p>
