SAT's

hate to exhaust this topic but i’m certainly not the first to.

With mid-1200 SAT’s is it extremely unlikely to be admitted RD? What would compensate, and to what level? How does Wes view SAT’s in general?

congrats to EDers by the way.

Officially, they claim SATs are secondary to gpa and degree of difficulty of course work. Between you and me, it would be nice if you were a Physics major, from the deep South, or had a varsity letter in two sports.

What about a film concentration? Do you think the “bar” is any lower for these applicants? It’s strong at Wes, I hear.

Film makers have a small window of opportunity; the facilities have just been expanded and will probably take a couple of years before enrollment reaches full capacity. Just be aware that the arts right now are extremely strong at Wesleyan. Between the comedy improv and the a capella groups and the home-grown bands, it often feels like every other person at Wesleyan is auditioning for something. Recently, some of the more outspoken among them led protests around threats to the free-form music radio format that has existed for many years at WESU–and were able to mobilize a couple of hundred students around an issue that few had paid any attention to before the fuss. So, in answer to your question, I would say the bar is actually higher for arts applicants because you have to rock just in order to keep up around here. But, maybe a tiny edge exists (for the moment) if you’re a film major.

rxb, i was just accepted ED as a film major…here are my stats which arent that special so you might feel better…also, i think you can have an impact on the film dept. if you send a video supplement, which i did with 3 of my most recent projects on DV and 16mm. The admissions officers never look at it, it is immediately sent to a film professor who reviews it on a 0-9 scale and makes comments. so if you have good work to present, then by all means, let them see it. i think it can help push you over the edge if u are borderline.

SAT I: 1400 (680M, 720) SAT II: 680(US History) 690(Literature) and they never waited to see my Writing scores b/c i took them in December.
GPA: 3.45 UW, 3.68W (5 APs, received 4s on English and US History Junior Year)
Extracurriculars/Sports/Whatnot: Yearbook Editor, Cross Country Captian, Varsity Track, Student Council VP, Art Club VP, Attended college-credit film summer classes at Vassar(A/A-), plus a lot of crazy film and music **** I have done completely independent…

i am confident that my extracurriculars played a big role in my acceptance. since my GPA was a little low and my SATS were average.
