The legs of Saugatuck runner Christian Birky are carrying him to the Ivy League.

Birky has been accepted at Princeton University and will run cross country and track for the Tigers.

Its really the best of both worlds, Birky said. Obviously, I started looking in terms of academics first. They also have a very strong tradition in cross country and track.

Its dream for me to compete at the NCAA Division I level. Theres no better academics than Princeton.

This fall, Birky posted a school-record cross country time of 15 minutes, 29.5 seconds at the Division 4 state meet at Michigan International Speedway.

Christian is a champion and an incredible runner, Saugatuck cross country coach Mike Shaw said.

Birky carries a 4.16 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. He scored 33 on his ACT test.

Birky, who also considered Dartmouth, Harvard and Yale, is one of two Saugatuck runners competing in college next year.
