With my 2 best friends (and longest time - 34 years)

Adam Sandler in Funny People:
In your 20’s it’s “&%@* this $%#, &%@my parents, I don’t need them, &%@*
them!”
In your 30’s it’s "&%@this $%#, "&%@* the government, "&%@* the president, I
don’t need them, “&%@* them!”
In your 40’s it’s “Hmmm, I’m hungry, I wonder what’s in the fridge.”

It was better than we expected it to be. We gave this film 6 thumbs up.

We also saw Julie & Julia, and all agree that Meryl Streep has “done it again!” 6 pot-holders up!

Just saw Julie & Julia. Meryl Streep is just terrific. There were many laugh out loud moments. Even non-foodie son who never watched Julia Child enjoyed the movie.

Saw Julie & Julia last night also… LOVED it… Nora Ephron is a master… Meryl should win the Oscar…and Amy Adams was perfect also in her role… favorite line: Julia says during dinner “I can’t believe French people get to eat French food EVERY day”…

Julia Child appears to have been a terrific gal… talk about “joie de vivre”… she had it in spades… almost felt blasphemous eating popcorn while watching it…

TOTALLY recommend it… agree with many laugh out loud moments…

Keep your eyes on your local PBS station, local Los Angeles just played a 2 hour Julia Child retrospective, “Julia Child’s Kitchen Wisdom” with another station calling it “Julia Child Memories: Bon Appetite”

We had “girls” night and saw Julie & Julia.
My mom was a terrific cook, she loved Julia Child and was very much a student of her. She had the book “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” and loved cooking from it.
She died in January and this movie made me miss her. I found myself getting a little emotional as it triggered some memories of my childhood.

So here’s to my Mom and to Julia! Save the Liver!

DD and I saw Julie & Julia this afternoon. We both loved it! Some critics argue that Meryl overpowered Amy. We didn’t feel that way. Both were charming and engaging in their own way. Julia Child certainly knew how to live life to the fullest!

It was pure entertainment. The theater was packed (many men there, too) and everyone clapped at the end. Go see it.

I haven’t seen it yet, but Julia Child has always been one of my favorite people. I remember watching her show instead of Barney when I was little. I’ve made every recipe in every cookbook of hers, minus a few where I don’t have access to the ingredients. She’s an inspiration.

Went to see it last night - theater was packed with a lot of people older than me. When they played the Dan Ackroyd sketch in the movie, it was apparent that it was the first time a lot of the people had seen it.

Saw The Ugly Truth yesterday. Predictable and pretty stupid but it had a few good moments. Saw Julie and Julia today with a friend who had seen it on Friday night and was dying to see it again. Loved the book, loved the movie.
Meryl Streep is amazing in this movie.
Bien sur fireflyscout, pass the butter.

So glad to hear that people liked J&J. I read both books and love real biography films - that said I though the book My Life in France" was a lot more …um, say Francophlie than one could become in the current world.

The way that both Julie and Julia pronounce boeuf bourguignon is priceless. They pronounce it like bouffe, which is slang for eating, as in the movie, La grande bouffe.
Julia Child’s house renovated and put up for sale last year or the year before. The kitchen was entirely redone and ended up looking like any high end kitchen, with acres of granite counter and no soul. It’s really too bad.

Love Meryl Streep (one of my H coworkers thinks I look like her - yeah, I wish!) - she is SO talented, she even sings so well Julie and Julia are on my list of MUST SEE summer movies.

Marite, I think they actually removed the entire original kitchen from Julia’s house in Cambridge, MA where the show was filmed and reassembled it at the Smithsonian. Which would account for the new “bland” kitchen in the house.

Can’t wait to see this movie! DH said he’d go with me. But my D used to bake cookies with my mom, who passed away in January. Their running joke was that mom was Julia Childs and D was Martha Stewart. Maybe D will come with me to see it…

Julia’s kitchen is indeed in the Smithsonian Museum of American History. The display is wonderful!
Meryl Streep channeled Julia beautifully. I will watch her in any movie.

Yes, that is correct, and indeed the Smithsonian exihibit is featured in the movie. What I was sad about was the soulless renovation. As I said, it was like any high-end renovation done not for a particular client but for some anonymous prospective purchaser. Julia Child donated her house to Smith College who proceeded to have it renovated and then put it on the market. Many years ago, I lived only a few doors down from Julia Child and once or twice encountered her in Savenor’s.

Marite - you are so close to her house!
Saw the movie yesterday and also LOVED it. My favorite line was when Paul asks Julia what she likes to do most and she responds - EAT!!!
I have read Julia’s book My life in France a while ago and enjoyed it tremendoulsy , today I purchased Julies’ book
I left the theater feeling extremely hungry - plan a good meal for after the movie.

I am another one who disagrees that Streep overpowerd Adams and I do hope Streeopdoes get an Oscar for this performance. She was fabulous !!!
