Say it Here ‘Cause You Can’t Say it Directly—The Get it Off Your Chest Thread (NO REPLIES TO OTHER POSTS)

Well, that pushes me one step closer to retirement.

You gave us the wrong address. We shipped to the address you provided*. Why do you think we should cover this for you?

BTW, your Wine Shop in the Napa area, LinkedIn, and Instagram don’t make it look like the $9.00 will be a hardship.

*And, apparently you haven’t lived at that address in four years, you had a falling out with the other residents, and they were kind enough to refuse the delivery. Tell me again why this is our fault?

They’re coming today! They’re coming today! They’re coming today! They’re coming today! They’re coming today! My boy and my new DIL will be here this evening, first time home for him in four years. It’s embarrassing how excited I am. I’m in a complete mom-tizzy!

H & I were commenting on how well we did at not going overboard on Christmas spending. The universe apparently heard us … our 10.5 year old refrigerator died. We bought it when we remodeled the kitchen, and we loved it. But it would cost way more than we need to spend (just because we like the door-in-door so much). It’s the one appliance we “need now,” so we bought a different one. I like it, but I would have preferred to keep that money!

I really try not to be a hovering mother and text you constantly. Could you please respond when I ask you a question?

Do you really think we read (or want to read) the same information time after time after time?

So tired of being sick and miserable.
So tired of the cold weather in Southern California. Climate change is real. None of us remembers ever being so cold here.

I can’t even enjoy my new kitchen. I have construction workers here who are revamping the rest of the downstairs and they’ve been so awesome to me. I feel badly having them help me.

No! We just lost two huge branches off our pine tree in the backyard … the tree we can see from the kitchen & family room … the branches we hang our bird feeders on … the ones the birds & squirrels adore. Dang snow.

You can barely take care of yourself (it takes a village), and now you’ve got a puppy…

I wish I lived in an alternate reality where there was no such thing as the movie “The Good, the bad and the ugly”.

I mean just how many times can you watch this thing?

We’ve gotten good at dancing on eggshells… but it is exhausting.

Yes, yes, yes!!! I can’t believe that the Lions won a playoff game!

-7 degrees and no water this morning. Please let it be a main and not on our property …

My supposedly tech-literate, cynical, world-weary social media expert just texted me that they needed money to pay for missing postage on a package.

I can’t even.
(And yea, they clicked the link.)

Today is MLK Day. It made me sad that when I “opened” my digital newspaper, I saw virtually no news stories or op/ed columns commemorating his life and legacy or talking about service, the long arc of justice or really anything else related to King. This is the first MLK Day in my memory that my news sources seemed to almost entirely ignore the significance of the day. Maybe I am reading the wrong papers, but today’s media coverage seemed to be focused on politics, democracy, and the weather (I guess because of the Iowa caucuses). However, I believe the work Dr. King did and following up on that work is essential to the health of our body politic.

So I did a little pivot in my plans, and after attending an MLK day breakfast and concert, I spent the rest of the morning working with three semi-local seniors from families that are struggling financially. I helped the kids make a plan to fill out the FAFSA and for one of them, the CSS. I did tell them that they should wait a couple of weeks to submit the FAFSA given my own senior’s difficulty. This afternoon, I helped pack groceries at a food bank. I lasted about 40 minutes before getting too cold and tired, and then I wimped out, but hey I tried. None of this is to toot my own horn since I almost never participate in community service initiatives. I wish that I was motivated more often. Still, it was good to be spend the day thinking of other people’s children and their access to college. I spend altogether too much time thinking about my own, all of whom are frankly going to be just fine whether or not they get into the college of their dreams.

Who gets stuck in his own driveway one day, gets towed back into the garage, and then gets stuck again the next day?

This guy

I have lost my Wisconsinite card – the foot of snow and -17 temps kicked my butt.

It’s on our property …

Weather forecast said snow from 6 pm Sunday until 6 am Monday. Still snowing - guess Mother Nature didn’t get the directive to shut it off at 6 am this morning! Thankful I can stay home and that power & cable are performing as needed.

On speakerphone with my siblings while they met with the hospice nurse, I was reminded why I no longer live there. As my 28yo would say, peak Boomer behavior. Unfortunately, being racist and judgmental knows no age limit. When our mom dies, I had been holding out hope that this could be a fresh start for us all, but, man, I just don’t know.
