We made it up to our camp in the mountains to see the eclipse but it was harrowing. The logging road that gets us within 1 1/2 miles of the cabin was unexpectedly impassable, so the snowmobile trip ended up being 9 miles instead. We left our house at 9 am, parked the car at 1 pm, and didn’t get everyone up to the cabin until almost 8 pm. I hope the 2 minutes and 47 seconds of totality is worth it. At least the forecast is for totally clear skies.

It is 5 hours before the eclipse and reddit is filled with people looking for glasses. Where were you the past month?

Had to deal with medical bills coded incorrectly and insurance.

Makes me so frustrated!

I guarantee you that some idiot is going to go blind today because they looked at the sun without the proper solar eclipse viewing glasses. We’ve already received 5 reminders from school about telling our kids to not look at the sun today.

How I wish there was a tool I could use to be able to block certain words and images forever from ever appearing on my laptop.

I miss having the facepalm reaction emojis here on CC. I would have really loved to use them today :persevere:

Cal, you are a good guy and I will miss you. You will probably be happier at your new school, so good luck.

No offense but if you have limited mobility and it takes you 20 minutes to move your items from the cart to the scanner --one at a time-- perhaps the self checkout is not for you.

P.S. to the other family taking the second of three self checkouts, if you have so many items that you have 5 bags on the floor because your cart is still full, you also might not want the self checkout.

P.S.S. this is why I usually shop on Amazon

Can we now ban the use of the word “totality” ?

Nobody’s eyeballs melted off at my kids’ school today. Some people at work still don’t know what they heck they are doing. And my nosy neighbor is still nosy as ever. The world continued to turn on its axis today. Armageddon has been postponed again.

There was an eclipse today? Dang, I missed an opportunity to strike fear into the hearts of ignorant villagers. Again.

Our auntie died a month ago, and today heartbreak took over her drug addicted 59 year old daughter, who overdosed. I’m now planning her cremation and guiding her young daughter through a second trauma in a month. :broken_heart::disappointed:

Dear University of Arizona,

STOP sending D24 & I emails thanking us for attending last Saturday’s Admitted Students Day. WE DIDN’T ATTEND! As a matter of fact, we even CANCELLED our RSVP/reservation to the event A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO!

THEN you even sent me a survey asking my opinion about what I thought of the Admitted Student Day event. Thank you, however, for including some free text fields in which I could politely unleash my frustrated fury at your institution’s incompetence through this process. Don’t even get me started on how it takes an ACT OF GOD to get one’s email login ID password reset…like, how in the world are you supposed to reset your password when doing so requires your student ID # from your “Cat card,” yet you’re not an ACTUAL STUDENT YET and DON’T ACTUALLY HAVE A STUDENT ID # YET, LET ALONE A STINKING STUDENT ID CARD!

For the love of all that is holy, just STOP IT! I am SO GLAD that my kid is not attending there this fall.

But guess what? My HS sophomore is leaning toward U of A, so I hope to God that y’all get your stupid acts together in the next 2 years, otherwise I am seriously going to lose my mind.

That is all. You may now return to your regular normal interdepartmental paper-pushing and blame-gaming in the local Tucson media.

Good grief Marriott! I won’t say you have the absolute worst customer service, but it’s starting to come close. It’s now been over a month since we had a bad experience and the hotel manager promised us a free night in points. When I didn’t see anything before we left, she said it would take 1 week. 1 week later - nothing. Call customer service. (Always a treat to jump through hoops to get to a live body!) No problem. We will reach out to the hotel and we will credit you. You should hear something in 3 days. 4-5 days later, nada. Call again. Customer service says I have been credited the points, but it will take 1 week to show up. I said why didn’t I hear back from the hotel like they said? No reply.

Wait another week. Nada. This time customer service passes me onto to someone else, who was going to try to contact the hotel directly - and promptly hung up on me. Joy. Call back. This customer service guy said that this absolutely should have been taken care of, and they will make sure I get an extra 2500 points for the trouble. If I don’t see anything in 5-7 business days, call back and there’s a note to escalate the claim.

That night I got a curt reply from the hotel saying they’ve credited me the original number of points. But of course, here it is 6 business days later, and my account still shows nothing. ARGH!!!

I’m hoping by complaining here, the magic number will come through, because at this point, I want the higher number. And the sad thing is that the original issue wasn’t even THAT big of a deal. The person in the room next door started blaring his TV so loudly at 1am that it woke H up. He called the front desk to see if they’d call him and ask to turn it down. The (male) receptionist’s answer was “No, he wouldn’t. Because as of right now he only had 1 mad guest. If he called, he’d have 2 mad guests?!” If the manager had said that was poor customer service and she was sorry, we would have been 100% fine with that!

And why should it take 5-7 business days for points to show up in an account in the first place? This is 2024, not 1974!

Wow, the eclipse was incredible. It was a bleeping lot of work to get all five of us up there, but well worth it. Yesterday my husband was able to get the car within 1 1/2 miles of the cabin, but it was very tricky getting out on the muddy logging road. Definitely a once in a lifetime experience. I will post a photo later. The sun was directly over the lake and mountain we see from the front porch of our cabin. It was like the cabin was designed specifically to view this eclipse. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky all day long. I literally cannot remember the last time that happened there (the mountains usually always have some clouds hanging over them). My daughter is a photographer and I can’t wait to see her shots.
