Sometimes when we’re lucky, we get what we need just when we need it. For me, it was watching Kelly Corrigan’s TED talk. 12 minutes of wonderful perspective on bravery.

LEO son said that it was 90+ degrees after 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights this weekend. He wears black pants, a black shirt and a 28 pound black bulletproof vest. He said just standing still he was dripping sweat.

Learned last week that S21 made plans to go overseas in 10 days.
Is meeting his gf there (who has been overseas this summer for her own internship); and together have made plane, train and lodging accommodations. And, he applied for (and subsequently approved for) time off from his fed paid internship.
Clearly, we have an independent son and while I am so very happy for his adventures and relationship joy, I am very cognizant that we are in next phase of our relationship with him. (He no longer needs us the same at all. Which is what we aimed for, but that status developed much quicker than I anticipated.)
S24 will be getting more of our attention now.
As will the dogs.

Just saw online that my niece was married a few weeks ago. Obviously I wasn’t invited since I haven’t talked to my brother in over 7 years. And I wouldn’t have gone. I know there are 3 sides to every story, but truthfully, I did nothing to him. Both my parents just celebrated their 75th birthdays and I know even though they don’t talk about it anymore, they wonder why he’s shut us all out. It’s like a death in a way.

Am I being too harsh?
We called our in laws on our way out of town for this wedding. We are out of the country and while texts are included, calls are not.
My fil wouldn’t get my mil so she called us the next day. Apparently he didn’t communicate to her that her son called. My husband called her on her birthday mid week. She calls again today. We are still out of the country. We were planning on calling tomorrow when we are back.
I think it wouldn’t bother me if she at least had her son’s number and called his phone. He is much much nicer than me.
Just had to get that out into the universe

Maybe this is a good place to say this…HS grades matter.
I can really only speak directly to the (highly rejective) school where I read apps. We have very clear guidelines as well as qual and quant ratings across various measures. One guideline: readers can deny apps for two full year Bs (in any years, in any combo of core courses). These apps aren’t always denied and can move forward but, yep, two Bs.

I hate TV shows and movies that show characters texting but don’t make the texts legible to the viewer! They either leave them on screen for like 2 seconds or make them so tiny that they’re unreadable. 
How do they expect me to read that little bitty I-Phone screen?

The waiting is tough. I realize above I said son hoped to make it to second round. He really had 2 additional sessions before he ever got to the real interview. Still waiting to hear.

Nosy Neighbor’s landscaper spent 2 hr this morning next door using the leaf blower. Um…there’s hardly anything to use a leaf blower for over there. But ok, man, you probably have to earn your keep with that lunatic client of yours. Lord knows I wouldn’t ever want her for a customer, so heaven help you.
