It shouldn’t have to happen to you for it to matter to you.

I don’t think people should discount an extracurricular like “My kid only has a part time job.” Since my painfully introverted kid started her part time job 3 months ago, she’s gone from practically being afraid to even say hello to people or look them in the eye to being somebody who’s now a lot more assertive, self-confident, and isn’t afraid to ask questions or advocate for herself.

So to some of the turbo parents out there at my kid’s high school:
You need to chill out. Your kid doesn’t need to find a cure for cancer in order to be successful.

What my kid has accomplished within herself these past 3 months is really fantastic. I hope she talks about it in a college app essay next year when she’s applying.

I did my good deed for the year - convinced my physical therapist to persuade his pregnant wife to get the RSV vaccine when she was on the fence. I told him they don’t want to have to go through what we did with our nine-week-old infant. He said, “Well, she’ll really be born after RSV season…” I asked for the due date, and it was only four days later than our son’s. He got RSV in late May.

In the first responder community they often say they see people on their worst days. Keep those in and around the Potomac River that are recovering the victims of the DC crash in your thoughts. They are seeing and experiencing things that only a small portion of our society ever has to deal with.

The movie Taken comes on at 11 pm, so of course I’m watching it. The street the apartment in Paris the girls are taken from is only a 20 minute walk from my brother’s apartment. Who would have thought I would be familiar with that area.

Thank goodness Sober January has come to an end. The world is to crazy for that level of sobriety.

My good friend is a dog groomer and I knew if we got a cockapoo we’d take him to her no matter where she works or the cost. Since 2012 she’s groomed him every 6 weeks for free with a large tip. She could do that because the owners of the kennel/grooming didn’t care what she did with her own time since she’s so amazing at running the kennel and retaining clients. It’s saved us thousands of dollars over the years. Now the kennel was sold so the recently widowed owner can enjoy her retirement and live near her grandchildren. Thank you P for all the years not only for the grooming but for the 4-H clubs you ran. My D loved them. Enjoy your retirement!

Eye glass saga comes to an end…

Above I complained that the lab broke the frames (frames I owned) when making new lenses. I ordered other glasses with my credit (sunglasses) but took the frames to be repaired, where I discovered the lenses were too big (lab error, and when you try to put lenses that are too big into plastic frames, the frames break). Back to store to have them shaved down. Back to frame repair guy. He did a great job but when I got home I couldn’t see through them. Blurry and a trapezoid shape.

When picking up my sunglasses, I told them the lenses were really screwed up and I wondered if there was something they could do. Clerk sighed. I know she was thinking “We gave you credit for the error and you got these new glasses at a BIG discount” but she took them, looked at me and said “The right lens is on the left and the left lens on the right.”

She swapped them and now I have new sunglasses and repaired regular glasses. All for only $40 OOP (insurance had paid a big part of the original order). Happy.

When I was at the store yesterday they were announcing that a Saab was parked in the striped space next to a handicapped parking spot and to please come move it. Second announcement about 5 minutes later. When I went out, there was a store employee standing there, still complaining about it. I said call the police and have a ticket issued. I went to my car but had to go back into the store to return something and it was still there.

Clerk did say maybe it was stolen and abandoned. It was a very nice car, so that’s possible. If the owner just parked there, what a jerk. This is next to the closest handicapped spot to the store entrance, but still not a parking spot.

Oh, my gosh. DH has been having memory issues. A few months ago, we went to his doctor. She said his cognitive test results were fine, so he doesn’t have dementia or anything. But I was present during his test, and he could NOT remember several words she listed, after just a few minutes.

I mentioned that one doctor thought DH might have ADHD, and wondered if meds could help. She said to think about it and get back to her if we wanted an ADHD evaluation. Even then, I was thinking, “Yes, we do!”

So DH called and made an appointment for this morning. He called after he got out, and I said, “How did it go?” “Oh, fine, I don’t need to do anything.” “Uh, what about the ADHD evaluation?” “Huh?” OMG, he had forgotten the point of going. Sigh. I told him to call back right away.

I’m a little annoyed at the doctor, or the office, because when DH called, he made it clear why he wanted to go in. I didn’t think I had to remind anyone!! I’m so tired of having to remember everything for everyone. I sure hope I don’t develop memory issues.

It doesn’t matter how many times you say it. It doesn’t make it any less wrong.

It’s fun making reservations in Poland, everything is so affordable. Through Budget, I’ve rented a Jaguar in Krakow for three days (we’re planning on taking some day trips out of town). My daughter-in-law thinks I’m spending too much money on the car and accommodations, but I told her my rule of thumb is I’m willing to pay what I would in the US for lesser quality.

I really did want to try to catch up with you to walk with you. I was at the gym when you called and said I could be home in 10 or 15 minutes. You didn’t want to wait until later in the day and you said you don’t take your phone with you when you walked, but you didn’t tell me where in the neighborhood you would be. I’ve driven through half the neighborhood and I can’t find you. I give up.

Why is it, EVERY WEEK on trash day, mother nature decides that we should have 40 mph winds? It never fails.
