Thinking about getting tested to see if the measles vaccine I got about 15 years ago still covers me. For some odd reason, I’ve had to get the vaccine multiple times. It just doesn’t seem to last for me. I’d be really mad if I ended up getting measles from someone who decided they just don’t like vaccines.

I’ll have free time today. Minimal social media and not reading that newspaper will leave me free to get a few other things done.

I was sad to read that the FDA/NIH did not celebrate Rare Disease Day this year. For those of us who have family members with rare health conditions it’s incredibly difficult and painful to watch. To the researchers -we see, thank and respect you and hope you can continue to search for cures and solutions.

Well, that was a shock. My H handed me the latest assessment for the family cottage he owns with his mom. The assessment went up 190%!!! This is a tiny place, decidedly not fancy. We are the only cottage that doesn’t have waterfront access or a shared waterfront access. We have an easement over our neighbor’s property (used to be a relative’s property, but now a stranger owns it). The assessed price is ridiculous. He will appeal, but that involves a trip (3+ hours). I have to admit that I was relieved to hear H say that he thinks it’s time to sell. They already pay more in taxes, insurance & upkeep than it’s worth to us. We’ll see if he follows through. It’s not mine, so I am on the sidelines on this one.

Thrilled for my son to get a summer internship with a federal lab. But will the job/lab be there come June? Maybe don’t pull your resume from other places just yet……

Thank you, swimming pool and athletic club, for keeping me from falling into despair.

I’m so happy! D and my grandcat came yesterday for one night.

Today D packed up & my grandcat said she wanted to stay (ok, she literally ignored treats and all the usual things we do to get her ready to go). So we have her for a week! I love this kitty so much, and miss her terribly since she used to live with us for a couple of years.

She’s chilling next to me on the couch.

My dad, an amazing father and even better grandfather, was born after all his grandparents had passed. He has always been sad about missing out on that experience and those connections, but especially wished he at least knew something other than only a name about his paternal grandfather, and more importantly who his great grandfather was and from where in Ireland he and his children immigrated.

I have spent hundreds of hours over the past two years trying to find out how and when his granddad"landed" in iowa and who his great grandfather was. Hundreds of census. Hundreds of passenger lists. Hundreds of Irish parish records. Dozens and dozens of relatives family trees with wrong and/or unsourced names and locations. Two Irish history/genealogy courses. Nada. So many roadblocks.

My dad is 86. I feel so much pressure to gift him his grandparents while he is still here and while he is still 100% here.

Yesterday, he called to tell me the possible name of a relative came to him out of nowhere on one of his evening walks… one name out of a house full of relatives he remembered visiting on the one out of state trip they took when he was very young.

And last night at 2 am-with that obscure clue-and a deep rabbit hole, I found THEM. ALL of them.

I needed this.

I can’t say this to you, but I really want to: You will do your body a huge favor if you eat properly while undergoing cancer treatments. Please stop with the “comfort food” and focus on the foods your body needs to heal itself.

I’m getting tired of this, but certainly not nearly as tired of it as you must be.

Pardon my siliness but I get a little thrill out of watching the “Friends of Big Bear Valley” eagles, Jackie and Shadow, who have 3 little eggs, one of which just started to hatch. So fun to check in on them as it brings me joy. I need a little joy as the word around me seems to implode (fortunately not personally). I started watching 2 years ago when she had laid 4 eggs, none of which hatched. Excited for them both!

Could the 3rd time be the charm? Last Monday, all I wanted to do was roll over a very small traditional IRA that was in a 5 yr CD to a different financial instruction where I have a larger traditional IRA. I had the form from the receiving institution saying exactly what I wanted. After 45 minutes of clueless pecking and calling people, the guy gave me the check to mail. The account disappeared as expected in my app.

two days later my account reappeared with $3 and change in it. It said the check was just a withdrawal. So I go back and tell them I think they messed up. The same guy said he did it right and it would take care of itself. uh ok. An hour later I get a call from him. He messed up. He’s mailing me another check (made out again to the other financial institution) for the amount. Great. I receive the check on Saturday.

This morning I look at my bank account. Not only is the account still there, it now shows $4.00 in there and there’s no record of the second check.

I’m now on the phone hoping someone there can clear this stupid mess up. I’ve been on hold for 25 minutes and have moved up in the queue from 11 to 3. Lovely…

OMG I just went from 3 to 8 in the queue? Is this a sick joke?
