Here we go.

Nothing more frustrating than watching someone metaphorically trying to use a hammer to bang into place a screw. Both the wood and the screw get destroyed while the worthless tool (and I don’t mean the hammer) are left unscathed.

Men are so stupid and stubborn. You, him, the other him — this is the dumbest bunch of magical thinking ever and I am gonna end up being the bad guy AGAIN and you over there? Shut up. Just, for once, shut up. God give me strength.

I’m disgusted by the lack of respect these companies have for students seeking internships. My son has been ghosted by several companies after doing two and three interviews. Is it so difficult to send a rejection? He paused starting his summer job, where he has worked since high school, because he was certain this company was going to contact him after the last interview? Why? Because the man told him to his face that he would!

I handled that firmly and directly, but, in the spirit of this thread, what I wanted to say was “Can you butt out and let me take care of this? You aren’t adding anything to this process except confusion.”

Things I won’t put on Facebook about our trip to Poland:

  1. I lost my credit card.

  2. My husband wrecked our rental car.

  3. My son had a break and is in the ER while I’m thousands of miles away.

  4. At least DH is already home so he can advocate for DS, but somehow he lost his passport (I had handed it to him in Warsaw and watched him put it in his pocket). Thank God he had his Global Entry card, so they let him travel.

  5. When I get home, I have to deal with the rental car, DS, work, and volunteer responsibilities. Maybe I should lose my travel documents so I’m stuck over here.

(Having said all that, Poland is an amazing country. Beautiful, modern, affordable, interesting, etc. I highly recommend it for a vacation. Gdansk in particular is a true gem.)

RIP, majestic tree. I am so sad… we passed that property for a different reason. D*mn. As its owner, I would have never removed that tree. It was one of a kind.

I bet Pope Leo XIV has a pretty long to do list, but he may need to work in some time to provide guidance on how to deal with those opinionated relatives prior to Thanksgiving this year, a frequent fall topic in the Parent Cafe. According to today’s WaPo, his oldest brother has shared some strong opinions via social media that are likely not Pope approved. That said, I have really enjoyed hearing from the middle brother, the one he plays Wordle with each day. Kind of like how my D’s MIL talks to her sister every single morning. I envy those kinds of sibling relationships.

Over a lifetime it seems we have gone from carrying cash to pay for things, then to checks, then credit card, then Venmo or Apple Pay type payments. I am not going to start doing checks again. I don’t like carrying cash. I can do Venmo or Apple Pay but many places don’t accept those.

Yet I’m getting ANNOYED by extra $ to use a credit card now. This morning at the farmer’s market I bought a small bottle of honey for $7 and had to pay $1 extra for using a credit card. Which they didn’t mention until they were ready to slide the card.

This is not going to send me to the poor house but I’m still annoyed!

How can there be articles published arguing that there is no such thing as “laziness”? I’ve seen vastly different activity levels even within my own family, through the generations! For instance, I am trapped in my living room except for rare outings by myself until my dog recuperates. I’m losing it, and finding all sorts of tasks to do. My husband is happy just sitting around the house, no exercise, nothing. And neither of us is working this summer! Why do people act like they’re 80 years old when they’re not? I realize that value judgments don’t need to be attached to activity levels, but I’m in no mood to be nice about it.

Sorry if I am not on board with getting a new boat. As long as you continue to just think about it, fine. If it gets beyond that, I will have to weigh in with my hard no. Once your mom is gone and the dust has settled, you can do whatever you want. Until then, just no.

Some mornings the coffee shop barista is my favorite person in the world. This is one of those mornings.

Im sick and tired of the owl in our wooded backyard hooting away at 2:30 am.

Get off your lazy butt and go kill some field mice.

Yes, I am sure that you could. But I would ask that you don’t.

I love my job!

I get quarterly bonuses at work. I love the bonuses as they are my “travel fund” - you know, extra money you don’t count as your regular income.

This week was bonus week. I was jazzed because my final payment on my Netherlands bike ride is on the horizon.

On Wednesday I got a text from the owner - apologizing to me…he accidentally shorted my bonus (um, ok, I hadn’t given it a moment’s thought, it’s a gift, and you don’t complain about a gift), and wanted to let me know the balance would be in the next payroll!

Of course, I immediately texted back “boss, that’s my favorite kind of bonus, the one that keeps coming!!!” He laughed. I laughed.

I love my job!

Poor, poor Starbucks employees. They don’t want to wear ‘uniform’ (black t-shirt and jeans) to work (and Starbucks is giving them the black t-shirts). The union is filing a complaint.

Lots of businesses require their employees to wear uniforms, and they aren’t as attractive as a black t-shirt and jeans.
