Hey, parents. Putting this out there … If your S or D is in PSLF, make sure you/they follow what is currently going on with that. Some very broad language may be put in place that might affect your kids, based on where they live, for whom they work or what kind of work they do.

When I was in Spain (and right between the ceremony and the dinner for my daughter’s wedding) I got a fraud alert asking if I’d just charged $17000 for a Tesla. Well, no, I had not and they cancelled the card (nicely asking if I had another card before stranding me in Spain) and issued a new card. Of course I had to contact any bills that were auto charges monthly, and I think there was only 1.
Just got a fraud alert on the new card asking if I’d charged $0.01 on the replacement card. No, I did not, so now I have to get another new card. I’d had this card for almost 10 years without an issue, and now twice in 5 months? And I think the auto payment hits on Monday. Great.

ARGH! Stupid smoke detector above my bed started chirping in the middle of the night to warn me its battery is low.
It woke me up twice, then kept me awake waiting for the next chirp. I went into the next room to sleep on the couch, but the darn thing was loud enough to keep me awake in there too.
Why do these things always seem to go bad only in the middle of night?

I always wondered about the right words to use when describing my adult child “my young woman” “my adult baby” “my kid who wears adult sized clothes” “that one”???

In reviewing bills and credit card charges, I learned H had charged $160 at Target. This would not be a big deal were it not for the fact it was for Hot Wheels. $160 of little toy cars. Sigh.

On Monday a bunch of no parking and road closed signs appeared outside my house. Yesterday I finally read the signs and it said work from Aug 20-22. Great. No info about whether we could park in our driveways (and get out) or, most important to me, what to do about trash collection.
So I call trash collection dept. They know nothing but will call me back. Today work trucks so up and it’s not the city but Xcel, and they are digging up the street in front of my neighbor’s house (and screwing around with something up next to his house). I put on my crazy lady hat and went out and confronted a worker to ask what was going on. He said they’d be done today, that they aren’t digging up the whole street (then why are there no parking signs along the whole street?). Only one day, not 3 days, and no reason they had to drop off the no parking signs on Monday for work to be done on Wednesday, and no reason to close the street for 3 days.
This is bad enough but we still have construction on the bridge that has closed the cross street for the entire summer. Now can’t get out of the neighborhood that way and must go the only other way which is a pain because it is by a high school and school has started.
Grr.

I’m really disappointed in you. You make so much effort to make sure your best friend has a social life now that she lives here, but even when I tell you I’m really lonely since dad died and would like to go out to dinner once in awhile you don’t react…

A week ago one of my son’s roommates informed them that she’s not returning for senior year. There’s been a mad scramble to find a fourth roomie, but it doesn’t look good. She didn’t give a reason yet, because she wants to do it in person when she comes to get her stuff out of storage. They’re all stressed, we are adjusting to pay more than expected, but my heart breaks for this young lady. This foursome has been together a long time and I know that whatever is happening in her life can’t be good.

I put wax melts on our local Buy Nothing page. There was A LOT of interest, and I split the items among 6 people. Each bag contained at least 4 packages of six metls. Because there was so much interest, I wanted the people to feel a bit special when they picked them up, so they were in cute bags with their names on them, tied in nice bows. THREE of them didn’t show up. Plus, since it was hot, the ones that weren’t picked up melted (and stained my concrete steps). There were about 15 other people who were interested but never got the chance. I’m putting it here so I don’t become the person who writes a really snarky post about the people who didn’t pick up on the site that is only supposed to list items wanted or items to be given.
