I got a new phone today. My first in almost 8 years. So glad to get rid of the lightning cord.

Celebrating the fact that D’s dog’s tumor is benign! She’s spleenless, but she’s cancer free.

Oooh, I have to wait a month to find out but Bad Bunny is slated to do the halftime show at Superbowl, and D has designed for him and a dozen of his dancers in the past…I wonder if he’ll choose her again! She’s overseas for 7 weeks on sabbatical so I get nothing about work for a month!

Wish we weren’t traveling to Europe from a busy airport the first day of a likely government shutdown. I have no idea if our travel insurance will cover any issues.

Oktoberfest shut til 5pm due to an explosion somewhat north of it, plus a bomb threat. Fortunately, it’s a beautiful day so we can do something else.

Whenever you tell a story, it’s like, “First I breathed in, then I breathed out.” Can’t you just summarize, for Pete’s sake???!

We had three windows that needed to be rewrapped. Three.

They arrived at 11. I think they actually started working around 1. It is almost 6 and they are still working. They blocked my front door with their ladder, so I’ve had to wrestle our 12 year old Lab up and down the back stairs while these guys took more breaks than I thought was humanly possible. My garage is blocked because they were supposed to let us know when they were coming and didn’t. I need to be at church very shortly. I am very, very glad I’m not paying by the hour. I’m glad the house doesn’t need anything else but if it does I won’t be hiring them.

For the love of all that is holy (and healthy), keep your kid home when they can’t control the snot that comes out of their face.

And…
If the clothes you send in for backups are too small at home, they aren’t going to miraculously fit them when they have an accident at school.

A thousand posts behind, but I caught up!

I am the smallest of small town girls. I kept the email for months – months!!! and then in the post trip cleanup must have deleted it. I spent a ton of time doing a deep dive to retrieve it. And American Airlines is saying too bad, so sad? That’s really legal? They can keep the trip credit – so our money — for the swapped ticket difference? Just, with a straight face say if I don’t have the email they don’t either, buh-bye money? FFS, no wonder people hate to fly.

I have made a mess of the whole flying thing and want a slab of cake or a crying jag but even that is off the table or I’ll be back in an ambulance. Deep breaths. Deep breaths.

Last weekend was to be the first time we vacationed with both of our adult children at the same time (and one fiance) in 10 years. Due to schedules we had 4 days. Flight in was cancelled for DS and fiance. After a mad scramble, got them on a flight to arrive 24 hours later.

And then they decided they couldn’t make the trip. Lots of tears on all sides.

I said all the right things about them making choices that were right for them as a couple, that I understood why they were making the choice and respected it. I said all of that because it’s true.

But inside? Inside, I was and am so frustrated they didn’t come. For me, for DH, for other DS, for them. It broke my heart. And I’ll leave that here because nothing good would ever come of saying it out loud.

Pro tip: If you add someone to your cell phone plan to be nice and pay for their phone, add them as an authorized user. If you don’t and you die they can’t change their cell phone plan and keep their number without an heir jumping through hoops while standing on their head.

You cannot keep that dog. I know you have tried so hard to make it work. You have worked so hard to train him. You have spent 7 years struggling to meet the dog’s needs. But he bit your child. And I know no one else will take him. It’s awful and tragic, and it has to be done. Now.

I absolutely resent the fact that you and the kids look at my allergies as a burden, joke and something that you don’t bother to learn about or accommodate. And yes, you get the blame because you never set a different example. It’s created a little club that I am excluded from and it would be nice if just ONCE, you tried to make my life a little easier by sharing the burden or at least had some empathy for the anxiety this causes, rather than just shrugging your shoulders and saying you’d just mess it up.

My child’s friend lost their life this past weekend in one of the too many to count shootings. A good person is gone. Someone with so much to offer. I hate what we’ve become.

So enjoying my new phone. I no longer need to carry keys for house or car, nor credit cards, nor drivers license. Supposedly I can even use my digital ID at airports. It really simplifies my life

I’m like a kid with a new toy, although the nice lady at the bagel shop did have to coach me about double clicking a new side button to authorize a payment yesterday

I’ve been thinking about getting a Netflix subscription but hesitated because we don’t have too much time to watch TV. The time has come, apparently! Off to click “subscribe”!
