Just when I thought this year could not get any worse for me and my family, I found out that it could.
Last night I went to a HS theater production with a college English professor and a fellow grammarian (who was editor in chief of her HS paper years ago). All three of us were appalled by the Playbill contents - punctuation mistakes, formatting inconsistencies, proper nouns not capitalized, etc. Note to HS theater groups, have your program edited by one of your English teachers before you publish it.
My neighbor is the worst dog owner. She is retired and got a golden retriever during the pandemic. Sure she has done some training and agility with the dog but she also smacks and screams at the dog for humping another dog for example or other stupid things. We have had to call the police for a wellness check when she left the dog outside in the snow and single digit temps for over an hour with the dog barking (the cops came and she had fallen asleep and forgot she let the dog out). Another time we had to call one of her friends to try to get in touch with her as the same thing happened. And today, the dog has been barking and jumping up and scratching the patio door for 45 minutes because the dog is freaking out that the wind is blowing and the neighbor is running their leaf blower as well. This dog knocked the neighbor over about a month ago resulting in spine fractures and surgery. The neighbor after talking about moving to be closer to her adult kids for years finally sold the house and she will be leaving soon. I feel horrible for this dog. I am so tired of hearing this dog barking for often many hours of the day while the owner is blind and deaf to it all.
And the dog just went inside about 5 minutes ago. Pretty pretty please fingers crossed, I hope we get a good new neighbor!

Dear friend, whether you ask me personally or in a group text, the answer is still the same.
I’m hoping one of 2 contractors currently recommended works out for our basement. The company the insurance people suggested we work with is being unresponsive and the quote they provided had errors (of course in their favor, of at least well over 1K). It’s hard to find good contractors.
New neighbor just filled me in on how the sale went. I have to admit, sometimes I wondered if it was me when my relationship with the old neighbor become so toxic (which is weird, since they had the same issues with everyone in the neighborhood), but apparently it wasn’t. The sale went exactly as I expected it to.
So happy to have new neighbors. Another neighbor was going to bring over sage, and apparently new neighbor beat her to it. She told me not to think she was weird if I saw her burning sage as she had to get the bad ju-ju out of the house.
Is it pathetic if I put my pjs on at 5:40???

S2 went to Poland to see Ukraine qualify for the World Cup in soccer. Was supposed to take the train from Warsaw back to Lviv. Got a ride with someone instead. The railroad tracks on that route were bombed today, around the time his train was supposed to go through that area. Fortunately the train was running late and so avoided disaster. This was the closest call so far, I think, and so unexpected. He is also in Kyiv about ten days a month now for work.
Let this all end. Please.
Just here to say that there should be a law against wearing perfume while reading a library book.
Note to self: When MIL complains about something the ladies who shower her did, and you know for a fact that is not what happened, just shut up and let her obsess about it ad nauseum. Even if it is something that upsets her … because trying to explain what actually happened upsets her more, because she is never wrong.
My new espresso machine arrived! And since it’s really just a new model of the same one that lasted 10 years, I was able to get it up and running quickly. My mornings will be much improved. And it’s nice to have it in time for holiday visitors.
Over the last week, my cousin’s recent heart surgery abruptly failed while on travel for work and he was flighted to the nearest trauma center for open heart surgery. His brother flew down and they are going to try and drive themselves home (about 700 miles)bc cousin also was discovered to have a detached retina so he can’t fly.
Yesterday, their sister’s husband had a massive stroke and was flighted to the nearest major trauma center (90 miles away). He is aphasic and paralyzed on the right side. She works for a florist. He is a self-employed carpenter. They are 60.
My DiLs parents’ marriage continues to collapse; her dad is an alcoholic in denial, her mom has had enough but has made the (imho) poor choice to delegate most family functions to my DiL, who is not yet seeing that she has to step away further to save herself. Current issue is getting the guns out of the midwestern house before the mom leaves for good (something the husband is unaware will happen, approached by his 4 kids begging him to seek help, he was not angry but just puzzled they thought anything was wrong)
This morning, Local SIbling called from the ER. My mom is having difficulty breathing and they are running tests. I talked to her yesterday afternoon, and she told me she loved me. I was there two weeks ago and she gave me her rings “for safe keeping”.
DH is at the oncologist for his first visit. (He didn’t want me there, yet, that’s fine)
I am making brownies. Gonna eat them all.
ALSO: Stop saying “if you need anything let us know” . These people do not have TIME TO LET YOU KNOW. Jeez Louise, figure something out.
