Say Yes To The Dress - Atlanta version

I know we had a thread on this show - NYC version, somewhere, but I"m terrible with the search feature here.

So, have you watched the “new” version in Atlanta??? So far these families are TERRIBLE about supporting their brides!!!

Wonder why we had to try something new - I was perfectly happy with Kleinfeld’s! :)

I’m not warming up to these consultants at all - the guy is not too bad, but the others - no.

Anyone watch yet?

I tried. I really couldn’t get through an episode. Too much of a Yankee I guess, though my D did live in Atlanta for a year. She’s north again in NYC.

I think it’s probably nice for the rest of the country to see its values more reflected, but for NYer’s it’s a hard adjustment. LOL.

NO!!When is it on? I’ma big fan of the Kleinfeld version.

I think the guy is either a long lost cousin of Bruce Jenner or used the same plastic surgeon!

I channel-surfed through it earlier today. It was the episode featuring moms you love to hate - one who paid a bundle for her oldest daughter’s gown some time ago but balked at going $200 over a $4.5K budget for daughter #2; and one mom who seemed certifiably nuts. She was beyond inappropriate about wanting her d to show off her figure in a wedding gown. Her favorite dress was one of those mermaid things - it looked like the 1960s-era black sequined Barbie number, but in white. I couldn’t help thinking that this mother must have picked the daughter’s college, fiance, and career, too, because the bride just could not stand up to her mother.

I HATE it when the consultant makes the little pained, prissy face about how hard it is to find a decent wedding gown for “only” $2K, or $4K, or more. I love Randy, the sales manager at Kleinfeld’s in New York, and Keisha, one of the consultants there. The Atlanta bunch doesn’t seem as interesting.

Oh, is the Atlanta version replacing the original? I did not really warm up to the Atlanta version. For a place where southern hospitality should be visible, they were all really awful to each other and the consultants were really off-putting. .

The Atlanta version seems to be replacing the NYC version for now - Friday nights at 9pm here. I think I saw a commercial that said Kleinfeld’s version would be back sometime in the winter. :(

Good call on the Bruce Jenner comment! I knew he looked like someone! The only thing I could come up with was that he looked like Orson from Desperate Housewives…

I’m a SYTTD fan and I was really disappointed in the Atlanta version. And I live there.

I love the cast of characters at Kleinfelds–the sales team, the fitting room people, and of course Randy, Keisha, Joan and Sarah. I’d assumed when I saw “Atlanta” on the show, that it was just an add-on, NOT a replacement. It doesn’t have nearly the charm, drama, or interest that the original has. I’m really upset to learn this news!

PS The Bruce Jenner Look-a-like can’t hold even a tiny candle to Randy or the rest of the Kleinfeld team. Waaaa. I want my old SYTTD back.

I agree with most of the sentiments. Didn’t like the consultants. At all. I hope the NYC version comes back… >.<

I miss the Kleinfeld’s bunch, too. There will never be another Randy or Keasha for me. I hope the Atlanta group will grow on us. I’m sure there are consultants whom we have yet to meet.

Thank you for this observation. Now I can stop wondering why he looks familiar. I find the show tough to watch. The sales staff is unpleasant and unsympathetic for the most part. Bring back Kleinfelds.

Bad surgeon, face peel and terrible botox. The thing that I hate the most is that, unlike Kleinfelds where there is an illusion of professional service and care, the feeling here is just sell it. I really don’t like the air of “our dresses start at $1500”…and this is from the girl who charged on her own at Saks when she was four.

Yes! I hate how they start talking behind the backs of everyone who isn’t in love with their first three picks. Like pulling more dresses is too demanding and that the customers are either tastless or cheap. They are very catty and seem to just want to make the sale. Go Kleinfelds!

I am not enjoying the Atlanta version. Everyone, from the owner and faux Bruce Jenner to the families, is horrid. None of the charm of the Kleinfelds folks. (Where’s that famous Southern charm???)

The Kleinfelds version will be back in February. Guess I’ll just have to make due with re-runs til then.

Absolutely. The other thing is that the lady that I think owns the place (short haired caucasian woman) looks exactly like my D’s old gymnastics coach and that is not a good thing.

I’ve lived in Texas for 29 years, so I have plenty of over the top southern women in my life already.

Ditto to everything said here. For someone who never had that wedding (I eloped abroad) let alone a wedding dress, I love watching the Kleinfeld version for those “I only have a budget of $10K” or also when they find something under $2K that just looks gorgeous, and the over-the-top couture types of dresses they put on these women. I love Keisha, “She only has one kidney, Joan” is my favorite line. Atlanta must have a more upscale place where they can show a whole range of dresses? This place is just a David’s Bridals with attitude. Seems like they just stuff them into the same dresses and then get exasperated immediately when they don’t just love it. And every budget is $2k? So boring.

How about the episode last week (?) with the really pretty woman getting married who had her two stepdaughters-to-be with her? They were like 5 and 8 years old. So cute that she wanted the girls to approve of her dress but so UNCUTE the reaction of the girls on the dresses! I was so glad she bought the one that she did (ivoryish color) - I thought it looked gorgeous on her!

Yes, the owner seems like a hard chick. The Kleinfeld top management can be firm, but have manners and seem to be much better with words.

Yes, those stepdaughters? Good luck with that marriage honey!

I am starting to like the Atlanta version.

Loathe, loathe, loathe the Atlanta version.
Love, love, love Randy.

And those stepdaughters? What a hoot! As Amanda said - good luck with THAT marriage!
