Saying good-byes to former teachers

Well its graduation time, and us seniors are going off to college pretty soon. I am sure other seniors would be thinking about this too…

How should I go around and thank former teachers for writing recs, being helpful, being nice and, oh ya, inflating up my grades (noo just kidding!).

Is a hug/handshake and a big smile good enough? what about a postcard? any ideas?

I’m not graduating for another two years, but here are some suggestions…

For teachers who have made an impression on you or been especially helpful:

 1. A (longish) letter of appreciation
 2. A small, personalized gift

For teachers who were helpful but didn’t have a huge influence on you:
A “thank you” card with a note of appreciation

For both:
A hug and a smile.

I don’t know what the norm is, but that’s what I would do.

And for that really special teacher who wrote the glowing recommendation that got you into college, you could send a postcard a few months into freshman year telling them how you’re doing. They’ll be touched that you took the time.
