Saying goodbye to favorite decorating trends.

Nothing wrong with painting a wall or a room a “color” like yellow or otherwise. But also remember that you can totally give a quieter wall room (like a room painted in the white family) plenty of color by highlighting a room with a certain color - like a big yellow vase, some artwork, yellow in your rug, pillows, etc. - also much easier to change out the look for seasons or just to refresh.

I want to throw in a vote for those with hardwoods to show impact and value in RUGS. OMG I love a good rug. I have purchased many rugs at TJ Maxx/Home Goods that provide me so much happiness.

I just purchased an 8 x 10 Ralph Lauren off white/blue wool rug original price $800+, was marked down at HomeGoods twice, for $149. I have no idea why it was marked down and not purchased. It’s beautiful! It’s living in my dining room!

Also tip: when looking at rugs on those hanging racks in the store, open the rack to view the rug - and then STEP BACK several feet - it will look totally different and really give you a great view of the entire rug.

@basket wow what a deal on a rug! I feel that I am always wanting new rugs (granted, we do have pets who, of course, head for a rug when an accident is forthcoming). I’ve recently tried Ruggable, which is a washable rug/mat that comes in cool colors and designs. I have one as my kitchen runner now, and another for the back door (it works because it is very low). They are working out well; haven’t washed yet, but the pet hair vacuums off much better than my traditional carpet runner and back door mat.

I’ve seen those Ruggable rugs. So there is a pad of sorts underneath and then the lightweight, thinner “rug” on top? Let us know how it goes when you wash one!

Friends have a ruggable rug in front of their kitchen sink. They love it…especially since it can be machine washed.

I’ve seen ads for that on Facebook/Twitter…and wondered if it’s nice! Can you vacuum it, or does it come up and get stuck in the vacuum cleaner? Or, does it not matter since you can just pop it in the wash?

I bought one for the grandbaby room. I like it, but I also spent $25 and bought some extra padding at Home Depot to go underneath the pad that comes with the rug. Unless you get their shag carpet, the rugs are fairly thin and fairly hard - not what you’d want for a baby to roll around on.

I recently painted over my circa 1998 yellow walls with two shades of a warm cream. Kept the accent walls the same sage green in the family room and rusty red on one side of the staircase because they go with our decor. We recently replaced carpeting with hardwood and even though the wood has the same tones as the carpeting did, the yellow made it seem disjointed. Much happier now.

Totally get everyone struggling with wall colors. I have an art degree (graphic design), but still need to paint sample boards to visualize a large space. I like painting boards because you can move them around. It’s amazing how different the same color can look depending on lighting/flooring/accent walls, etc.

@abasket I recently purchased this rug @Wayfair. I saw it at HomeGoods, but they only had the 5x7 and it was $199. I paid $349 for the 8x10. https://www.neimanmarcus.com/p/lauren-ralph-lauren-olivier-hand-tufted-rug-8-x-10-prod218050270?utm_source=google_shopping&adpos=&scid=scplpsku184170924&sc_intid=sku184170924&ecid=NMCS__GooglePLA_sc&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIpt6BzbWH6AIVgp-fCh1qZAu8EAQYByABEgIGuvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

While we’re on rugs…I’ve been itching to replace the thin stained rug in our guest room. I found this one in the 5x7 size at Homegoods today for $60: https://www.nourison.com/passion-psn10-navy-light-blue It’s bigger than the old one but fits fine and the color palette (which is totally teal, not navy or light blue) goes perfectly with the room. And with the outdoor cushions and pool seen through the window.

The rug was rolled up and taped so I didn’t get the full effect until it was home - all I saw in the store was the bottom edge in the picture. And my husband even liked it right away, which is rare.

@Mablesmom I LOVE LOVE that rug! Beautiful! I’m heading to HomeGoods today to look for a couple more items - I’m sure I’ll be combing the rugs again!

There’s a division of Wayfair…Modern something. My kid got that rug!

@thumper1, was it allmodern.com? I love their stuff and their prices, though I’ve never actually bought anything yet.

Speaking of paint, here is a nice little article about paint with some good recommendations.

Note the glorious yellow wall in one of the first photos.

Yes…allmodern is it @Nrdsb4

I’m wondering what will happen as a result of the huge layoffs at Wayfair?

I must have missed something. So blue (not just teal) is back in? I got rid (boxed up) all of my blue accessories and dishes several years ago. I got a whole set of these dishes when I got married and used them for years. I may go pull them out again!

Joss and Main is also a division of Wayfair.

I think for awhile now.

Ruggable: @JustaMom5465 , you can vacuum the Ruggable…but, I have a Dyson and it is too strong for it. So I googled and discovered to either turn off the brush, choose a lower suction setting, or that the “stair tool” works great on it. This was a wonderful tip because I had stored away and forgotten about this stair tool, which is a removable head with brushes that goes on the wand/tube, and it is amazing. It works great on the Ruggable and on the couch so I’m thrilled. Note I am mostly talking about pet hair here. If you don’t have a pet, and your vacuum is too strong for your Ruggable, you could easily broom sweep it or use a wand brush attachment. It is mat-like, hence, able to be broom swept.

@musicmom1215 , blue is the hot color now. A navy blue is Pantone’s “color of the year” and dark blue is popping up all over, from islands to small furniture to blue patters on tile, rugs, pillows. Heck click on the link above to see an example!

@TS0104 Clicking on the link was what made me see the blue! The only color of the year I saw back in January was a pale pinkish color. Then I read something that said “I hope you like green” and I completely missed the navy blue. I’ve always liked blue.

Time to shop rugs! A couple of years ago I couldn’t find any good blue-ish rugs.
