Sayulita Mexico

Has anyone been?
Looking for recommendations for my H and two friends. It will be a special trip as one of the friends is terminally ill. Ideally they want beachfront, surfing break nearby and not in a noisy part of town.
Thank you

Stay up on the hill. Sayulita used to be a quiet surf town. It can get very party crazy Sprng Break nowadays. Better breeze on the hill, better views. Look for a vacation rental with AC and a nice BBQ patio with view. The friend might need to take a nap in a bedroom with AC.

If they have to be beachfront, look for the northern edge of the beach. But avoid being next to any youth hostels in the area. If you use Google Earth maps you can see if a youth hostel is next door to a vacation rental.

@coralbrook - do you have any other places to suggest? They are looking for something that’s a direct flight from LAX. Surfing would be nice but not a deal breaker as my H is the only surfer.

Thanks for the tips on where to stay; attending a wedding here next year.

I think Sayulita would be perfect, or some of the other small towns north of Puerto Vallarta. Easy flights and easy drive from airport. Rental car required.

Punta Mita is just before Sayulita but more expensive and beaches are harder to get to. Sayulita and San Francisco have a more ‘street taco and cerveza’ vibe but very beautiful jungles and safe towns.

It’s a really cool town but we will no longer go as my husband got deathly sick from eating at an pricey restaurant on the water there. A few days later we were back in Puerto Vallarta and ran into a guy who also got sick eating at the same place on the same night. Last year we went just for a day trip with our daughter who was with us and she got also got sick. So beware especially if someone’s immune system is compromised. My hubby said it was so bad he sorta wanted to die.
We have never had an issue in PV and I even drink the water there. Lots to do but beaches leave much to be desired compared to the Caribbean.

Just watched House Hunters International last night and they featured Sayulita. It looked lovely. It seemed that the hillside area was more popular for purchasing a house. The couple and realtor discussed the heavy party atmosphere of places closer to town. The beach and the jungle looked beautiful.

Thanks for the Househunters post. I was able to go online and find an episode to view.
I think it looks like a good option. They like the idea of beachfront as they like the idea of just walking out to the beach. Plus hill walking isn’t the best for his friend. They have found a house on the beach at the north end but it is pretty booked. They would need to go last week September early October and from what we have read it is very hot. The next openings are November but the price doubles and the minimum stay requirements go up to 6 nights. The friend with cancer likes November since October is the nicest month of the year where we live. Anyone gone in late September early October?
