So as of this semester (Fall 2011) SB 1440 has gone into effect. A LOT of people don’t know about it, so I wanted to start a thread that hopefully not only informs people of this (hopefully awesome) new transfer degree, but also so we can learn a little bit more about it from each other.

So what is SB 1440? It’s a bill that Schwarzenegger passed that basically is supposed to streamline the transfer process by eliminating unnecessary courses. You know how some of us want an AA, but also want to transfer? Yeah now you can not only transfer, but under this new bill you are able to obtain an AA degree. You are guaranteed admission into this CSU system, but it states that to no particular campus, but I believe it has to be local. This doesn’t mean you can’t still get into the college of your choice if your grades are good enough! In fact, if you are applying to a school as long as there are 20 spots available you will receive priority over other transfer students that do not have the AA-Transfer degree! Also depending on if the program and/or school is impacted you also receive a .1-.2 GPA bump.

Now I am not sure if this only applies to schools in which you are given priority transfer to due to the agreements in which some community colleges have with their local CSUs. I’m trying to find out if you are given the same priority everywhere at any CSU over the local transfers or not. I will post later when I find out how that is suppose to work. Or if anyone knows please let us know! I’d hope we’d have a good chance of going to an out of area school if we really wanted to.

I know that the community colleges are required to offer at least 3 transfer degrees for the fall semester already. Some colleges are offering psychology, math, sociology, and communications AA-Transfers. So please, if you have any information that could be added or if you want more information post! Also if anyone is going to be applying for transfer under the new bill, it would be great to hear how its working out for you.
