SCAD Uarts or CCA for animation?

So I’m finishing up my foundation year at Syracuse right now and I’m planning on transferring for multiple reasons (no animation major, mediocre art school isn’t challenging me, its FREEZING, huge student body, nothing really goes on in the city of syracuse)

So I applied to three schools and got into them all (I wanted to give a go at Calarts and Ringling but it was too late) and I really dont know where to go. I visited Uarts and I really liked the scene and campus but the animation program isn’t noted or anything. I’m visiting CCA and SCAD after finals.

I’m trying to figure it so I got a loose list of pros/cons of each school but I’m not sure how accurate my perception of the schools are.

SCAD
pros- great animation facility, career outplacement, reputation, tons of class options
cons- Lots of students go online and write reviews of how the school is evil, its huge, its in the south

CCA
pros- good animation faculty, bay area is attractive
cons- new program at a not very well known school, its tiny, two campuses

Uarts
Pros- location, living arrangements, good illustration classes I could take, ideal size
cons- not well known for animation, small animation program

So if anyone has any advice, information or opinions I would appreciate it. I don’t have a ton of time to make this decision and things are moving pretty fast from here on out.

TLDR: freshmen at syracuse transferring to 1 of the 3 schools for animation, dont know which

I know a computer animation major at SCAD who is finishing up his freshman year and is very happy there! He also had gone to UArts for a summer program during high school, and although had a great time, did not apply there as he felt that the animation dept. was not strong. UArts is in a fabulous location, dorms are terrific – facilities are incredible – but it is not well-known, if that is important to you. I don’t know a lot about their internships or placement, but the editor of National Geographic is an alum.

CCA has Profs who work at Pixar. D was accepted there but not enough fin aid, on her way to USC’s DADA program. She would likely have preferred CCA since she wants to learn from the best!

Your visits should tell you a lot about each schools. The schools you listed above are all very good, you really should see for yourself. Talk to as many professor, students, deans, etc. CCA and SCAD are on two other sides of the US so the feel is going to be different, but both will be much warmer than where you currently are living! Good luck with your decision.
