Scamming the Common App?

Of course I’m sure you can add a resume to the Common App…but if it’s all you turn in and you have 5 fantastic ECs…is there a point in having more ECs?

I mean I’m a senior and I have tons of ECs, but for someone who wasn’t involved, it doesn’t seem hard to scam the Common App.

By scamming the common app, do you mean lying about ECs? If so, then yes, it seems incredibly easy.

Not lying about your ECs per se, but as in if you’re only involved in 5 things (I think that’s the amount of blanks available), wouldn’t it look the same to someone who had like a million? I mean I know it depends on involvement, but still.

Just because there are 5 blanks doesn’t mean you can’t put down more. A lot of people put in resumes or at least add more stuff elsewhere

you put in all your important ECs that dont fit in the extra info section at the end of the app. if you have like 100 ECs, i doubt colleges take most very seriously. just put the ones that mean most to you because it shows more dedication, than joining a club and starting another just for college

most of the people who apply (even to common app colleges which are generally selective) don’t have more than 5 significant ECs. most colleges don’t care if you were involved in 2 or 200 ECS as long as you were doing something. I do think the Common App needs to provide more space to explain what all you did in that EC.
