At our office we have a lot of construction blueprint plans. They fill an entire walk in closet and basically gather dust. Some of these plans go back to the 1960’s.
We have someone who needs some work who we thought could scan these plans and put them on a CD. Could this be done at a place like Kinkos?
I imagine - call and ask.
Office Depot’s print center have large format scanners. It’s not cheap though, in our area it costs $1.99 sf. It’s the best way to preserve them though. Depending on how many (and it sounds like a lot) it may actually be less expensive to invest in a large format scanner, they aren’t crazy expensive - well under $10k - (check Amazon for good selection at good prices), and depending on where you are you may be able to locate a nice used one. They’re easy to use, and will save to a hard drive/computer you set up. You don’t need color, so don’t get roped into that.
Kinkos, Staples and places like that can do it. In my experience though their guys really don’t have their machines well adjusted or cleaned so I go to my local blueprint guy whose main business it is to make large scale prints (he also sells art supplies). My local blueprint guy charges $3.50 for a 24" x 36" scan, plus another $8 for the CD.
