Scar patch, cream, gel ......

Any one can give me suggestions about scar treatment?

One of my family member had an accident and has a really “long” scar on her arm.
She is using Mederma Gel and Neosporin Scar Solution Sheets.
We knew it takes time to see the result. But she wants to try ANYTHING, EVERYTHING to improves the appearance of scars.

Her therapist recommend Kinisio Tape. But we can’t find it at any drug stores, only available on-line and thru the therapist.

I’ve been told that new scars can improve with Vitamin E oil, but I don’t think it helps “old” scars.

Or, take a page from Padma Lakshmi, and own the scar as proof of a life experience.

Plastic surgeons can often do a lot to make scars less noticeable.

I have a long scar from surgery and the surgeon told me that vitamin E oil works just as good as anything else and is cheaper.

my D has a abdominal scar about 4 inches above her navel, that she tried Vit E on.
I know they use copper to speed healing, but I don’t know how that works on scar tissue.

Thanks everybody! We will try Vit E !

dmd77 - Thanks.

Yes, try the vitamin E oil. DD was in a car accident a few years ago. The air bag deployed and caused burns on her face. I was very concerned she might end up with multiple scars. We put vitamin E oil on the burns daily. I also used some calendula ointment to help with the healing. She’s scar free.

I had abdominal surgery, and for several years I put Mederma on the scar. I don’t know whether it lessened the scarring or not. No one is normally going to put a treatment on only half of a scar to do the controlled experiment to find out. But one thing Mederma did seem to reduce was the itching. My scars always itch a lot.

The scar was red and angry-looking for years. Now seven years on it has gotten thin and white and is a lot less noticeable. It did, however, ruin my dreams of hitting it big in Hollywood as a torso model.

D got a scratch on her cheek from someone’s fingernail in gym class that got infected. She used the Neosporin sheets (religously) with good success. But she started quite soon after the incident, as soon as the scab came off, I think. She even took it to sleepovers.

I was curious and googled Lakshmi and this is what was done to reduce her scar.

Oh. Well.
I have a low scar from a section- but being a torso model was never in my genetic cards anyway.

When my daughter was little she had a minor scrape on her foot that got infected and developed into a very ugly raised odd lumpy scar that the doc thought was a keloid scar (and was concerned she would be prone to keloid scarring but fortunately it happened just that once). We tried the vitamin E oil and it did improve it immensely. I seem to remember being told to make sure it was pure vitamin E oil.

Sorry, neither I nor my D have had luck with minimizing scars. She got hers from shingles & I got mine from surgery & walking into a bolder! We’ve tried just about everything recommended but perhaps too late for me & for her, it just never seemed to make a difference.

Avoiding sunlight on the scar (cover it with clotihing & sunscreen) are important.

I don’t do it for appearance, but to improve circulation and reduce pain-
but cross fiber friction massage on scars can help with that.
( I had extensive surgery on my foot with long scars)
