Scared of losing admission offer?

Ok well I applied to Bradley University in January (late, I know) and my GPA at the time was 2.4 unweighted, 2.7 weighted. ACT was 31. I was accepted. MY GPA has since risen to 2.9 weighted, 2.7 unweighted. They did see my 1st semester of senior year on my transcript. I got a D in Latin and a D in pre-cacl the previous year. BUT this semester I got a D in psychology, and mostly C’s and a B in AP Calculus. Additionally I am an Illinois State Scholar, I retook the ACT and scored 33, and I have no disciplinary or criminal history whatsoever.

I know it sounds terrible but for the most part this actually an improvement…I have had a very poor home life in high school, my parents are divorced, my dad remarried at the start of my freshman year, and my mom is an alcoholic and I suspect she also abuses pills, and my sister is slightly autistic and schizophrenic and every night my mom or my sister had an episode it was a night I was too scared or stressed to finish my homework.

My admission letter said nothing about my acceptance being conditional…even so I am still quite scared because of all the horror stories I see in the news of rising star students who were nevertheless rescinded because of errors on their application documents or dips in senior year. It doesn’t help that I am slightly on the low end of the admitted spectrum at Bradley (many of the other undergrads have like 3.5-3.8 GPAs).

It doesn’t help things that I had a horrible nightmare, but it did make me think…,.basically it turned out (in the dream of course) that my acceptance had been an accident to begin with. Does that sort of thing happen? I mean I think they reviewed my grades when I changed from school of engineering to Academic Exploration Program right?

So do you think I should call the admissions office before I submit my final transcript, and maybe negotiate some kind of academic probation deal? Should I submit my transcript and wait to see if they reply with any bad news before I call anyone? Honestly I am very sure my grades will improve dramatically once I am away from my family.

I would recommend being proactive and calling them now. If necessary, you might be able to work something out to take summer classes. If you wait and there is a problem, it may make it more difficult to remedy.

Ok so what sort of thing do you think I should say? Like just call admissions and explain my grade and ask if it will be a problem and what I can do about it?

As long as your GPA does not fall below their GPA standards for admission, then they cannot rescend their offer of admission. Keep your grades up, the best that you can, and study at the school or public library after school, when you can.

That’s sort of the strange thing though. My GPA was almost a point lower than many of the students who got it. And though it has improved slightly, it’s still almost 2/3 of a point lower than the average accepted grade. So I’m just kind of worried…am I only being held to the standards I was held to when I was accepted? Or am I still compared to the other students at this point?

^If you would have called the college yesterday or today, you would now have unequivocal answers to those questions.
