Scared that I wont be able to handle it all...

Hey…yea so I will bea freshman and I have a second phone interview for a work study phonathon job and it looks promising and i have been basically promised an internship with Dan Seals for congress (district 10) by his campaign manager once I arrive in evanston. What is the coarse load like and the job says they will be flexible with my schedule but do work study jobs really mean it when they say it???
Thanx…sorry…just a tad worried.

i worked at the phonathon…and its really not many hours…about 7 a week…but, unfortunately, i hated the job…having to ask 4 different times on the phone makes people angry pretty fast…and i didnt enjoy it.

Maybe you should chill out and not do so much, haha. You haven’t even gotten to school yet. Work-study is important, but maybe the first week of your FRESHMAN year isn’t the best time for an intense political internship. Priorities!

keenya2006, I agree with dfleish. Why make yourself crazy? You need to do your work study, and that should be manageable, but I’d wait to add any other commitments. NU students work hard.

I would definitely just start with one activity and add on as time permits. You do NOT want to overload yourself freshman year - if your grades suffer, it’s going to be hard to bring them back up. You will be surprised by the college workload, trust me.

So Im just suppose to tell the lady ‘yea…about that congressional internship…i think ill pass’ *** lol She said that she would try to be flexible but I really want like an honest answer. For all those poli sci/intl studies majors…what was ur course load like freshman year…how much or your time did u devote or should you have devoted to your studies???

You can ask to hold off on it. I was offered an internship this year but I passed, and kept in touch with the company and hope to work something out this year. It’s really not unreasonable. And if it doesn’t work out, then find another internship another time. Oh well. It’s a good opportunity, but there will be others. Especially with poli sci classes, you will get a LOT of reading, and you’ll want to figure out how much time to devote to classes before making other commitments.

aw im sad/scared now :(

don’t be! You’re going to have tons of opportunities in college, and you seem like a person who will take advantage of them. Don’t lose that motivation and you’ll get far.

:) aw thanx
