I want to echo something that Xiggi postualted earliier. I believe that a number of the catholic schools have trouble getting their students into some of the highly competitive schools. I read somewhere, but I can’t find the reference, that a few years ago that the statistics for Dartmouth acceptances was 18% for priivate school, 18% for public school and 13% for parochial school.

When we visited an education counselor after my second son finished 10th grade she said that the catholic schools do quite a good job but they try to do too much on their own and are not as well connected to other resources for their students. Perhaps it is this insular nature that may prevent the schools from getting more admissions into some of the most competitive schools.

Further, it may also be why so many of the students from this high school, and I think catholic schools in general, continue in the catholic school system in college, i.e. Santa Clara, Gonzaga, etc. Looking at the applications make it seem like they gravitate in that direction.
