SCEA - Class of 2011

i have a question on the career choice essay. I approached it as a small mini essay? is that fine?

btw is the summer essay on FORM 1 or Form 2?

because i dont want to submit form 1 until all my essays are done?

Yes to your first question.
The summer “answer box” is on form 2.

You probably want to submit form1 sometime soon. Most of the stuff on that form you can’t deal with anymore…

the intellectual idea essay I think is normally about what someone else’s idea was…but for mine I did my own idea (as influenced by others’) so it could be a combo or whatnot. depends but I agree with devaaki—you could probably write about anything so it doesn’t really matter what the topic is, just what you say. (very cliche sounding)

and how are you guys posting at like 11:30 AM—do you not have school or something?

They might also have breaks at school?

seniors in my school get to leave early. we simply need to have 4/8 classes. for me, i have first period off, and after sixth, i am out of school. i guess senior year is a great year to be more active in your extracurricular activities if you never had much time to do it any other years.

Another stupid question  But I just wanted to make sure if it was cool to use abbreviations for college when mentioning it in our application EC list, like ASU or something. Since it says “avoid using school-specific abbreviations.”

i have a class at a community college every other day so on the opposite day i come home during lunch…its nice…lol

When’s everyone submitting all their stuff? I have my essays done, still have another 900 characters total to cut down. But I really don’t wanna submit early, though I also don’t wanna get caught in a possible server crash… now that would suck…

print everything so in case the server crashes you can go snail mail

College classes are fun but a pain for commuters/overloaded EC’ers. :P

I plan to submit everything by this Wednesday. It’s not too early, and you have time to look over other portions of the app, as well, just in case you forget something.

Leeroy - I don’t believe we have an ASU over here, so I’d say spell it out. Heck, I don’t even know what ASU is.

Arizona State I think?

At our school, ASU was Asian Student Union…well, while it was in existence. It kinda died last year…

Leeroy: I actually said ASU in both my awards/honors section and I wrote about it in my essay. I figure seeing as how the application reader will know that we are from Arizona (or at least I’m assuming you are, seeing as how you mention ASU) and put 2 and 2 together. A college abbreviation is definitely not school-specific. If you have the extra words and/or space to spell out ASU, go for it. In my case, I didn’t.

i know most are not even done with the stanford app yet. however, has anyone started the CSS/Profile yet? i heard it was very grueling…

Hah! Yes…my dad’s doing it for me. It asks the randomest financial questions!!! So frustrating!

you know what so idiotic? i am paying collegeboard to ruin my chances for financial aid lol (the questions are abhorrent!). isnt life very ironic =)

Hahah! me too, Choboking! My mom and I went over PROFILE last night, and I was like… lol… I’m probably gonna end up paying double what everyone else is paying so I’m gonna just stop. Screw collegeboard. :P

yeah i mean comeon anyone can pay $200,000 over four years. who doesn’t have that much money? lol. o yeah don’t forget about grad school, another $200,000, a total of $400,000. and of course, you can’t forget the nice interest rates nowadays. ahh im gonna love debt =)

Ah yes…those interest rates…

I hope we don’t turn out to be students who pay off their educational loans for 30 years after graduation. Although, it’s kinda looking like the CB has biased the profile to make it so we do…
