Should a person steer away from applying to Yale SCEA if they have close to a 3.7 GPA and low test scores but true passion for the school in well written essays?
Define “low test scores”
Yes. The applicant pool at SCEA schools (Yale, Harvard, Princeton and Stanford) are self-selective, meaning MORE best-of-the-best applicants will be applying. As a result, an applicant with a 3.7 unweighted GPA or low test scores will get completely buried by the competition. A student in your situation should apply to a broad range of non-binding colleges in the early round, and apply to Yale in the RD round.
@Arsey9, how low are the test scores? Any plans to retake? A well written essay can count for a lot, but “true passion,” if you’ll pardon my saying so, is not uncommon. Is there passion for a field of study, not just the school?
Is this you that you’re discussing in your post, a child, a friend?
If your “low test score” is 34 ACT then you need to get over yourself. If it is a 27 ACT, then you need to look elsewhere for college.
I was asking not only for myself but for others as well. But its fine. I guess I know what I’ll do then
@Arsey9, the reason I asked was because you wrote “a person” and “they,” and I wanted to better understand.
Good luck.
It’s fine. Thanks for your help @IxnayBob
