sched suggestions from upperclass needed

So, I’ve basically figured out on my own how to do the scheduling thing becasue blackboard tutorial was a waste of my time…my school has something similar. My problem now is that I just can’t see the big picture of the next year and a half (until I need to declare a major) of when to take a GCR, an elective, etc.

Here’s what ive got so far:
5 classes per semester. Some GCR, some electives, AND some SMPA transfer requirements since I’m still deciding whether to transfer after freshman year:

These are the classes I definitely WANT to take sometime next year:
• Stat 111 (i did well on the AP test, so no intro class)
• Intro to PoliSci
• Intro to Psych
• Spanish
• Marketing
• Journalism

These are the classes I need to take in order to transfer into journalism school:
• SMPA 50
• English 51
• History 71

These are the classes I don’t really want to take but will need to b/c of GCRs:
• University Writing 20
• Chemistry
• Electronic Media
–And a bunch of others in the years to come.

So what does anyone suggest? Do I try and take as many GCRs as possible? Do I go for the elective in the first year? Any comments would really help, thanks.

I would say take GCRs first because that’s what I would do, although that’s my own preference… I don’t think it matters too much. One or two electives the first semester might be good, but just remember that you should probably do most of your requirements first.

I do have one suggestion though; if you don’t get into a UW 20 class that you are interested in (which is highly likely since everyone wil be rushing to get into those classes), just wait to take it either 2nd semester or sophomore year.
