Has anyone taken rhetoric r1a with Gonzaga? is he a rocking prof?
Also I want to take Philo6 my second semester, since Asian American studies with Bazian seems like an easier class to transition into.

Philosophy 6 isn’t offered Spring 09. Check:
[UC Berkeley - Department of Philosophy](<a href=“UC Berkeley - Department of Philosophy”>UC Berkeley - Department of Philosophy)

As far as Gonzaga, read the course description and make sure it is what you want to take:

Rhetoric R1A.002:Specters in Philippine Literature and Historiography(Satisfies Reading and Composition Requirements)

Instructors: Fernando (Elmo) Gonzaga / Alexandra Kleeman
TuTh: 9:30am - 11:00am
151 Barrows Hall

What must be excised from and incorporated into the text in order to construct something meaningful and persuasive?

The course will grapple with this principal question of cultural production as it explores how particular works of Filipino Fiction, Poetry, and Historiography in English find narrative coherence by confronting the spectral presence of the material conditions of life in the Philippines. In these texts, that which must be suppressed to maintain the coherence of the established order – the force of misplaced significations issuing from the failure of translation, the squalor of poverty, and the trauma of the past – returns to disrupt social norms and hierarchies.

Aside from reading Jos

wow, thanks for all the info! Did you get this info from the rhetoric website or from another cumulative site?

Math 1a
Chem 1a
Philo6
Rhetoric R1a 004

-Would this schedule be too much work for a fall freshman year, considering that philo6 and rhetoric would require much reading and writing, and I would have to study for chem as well

Also has anyone taken Rhetoric with Lempert?

I got it from the rhetoric site. The schedule above will be hard. Really depends on your experience with calculus and chemistry. If you already took AP Chemistry and Ap Calculus, I think it’s doable. If not, I think you will be stressed.

i have taken the AP classes for chem and calc. I know philo6 is a renown class, but has anyone taken rhetoric r1a w/lempert? I assume many classes at Cal are invigorating but ya gotta be sure…

To OP, premed does not require Chem 1B. Most med schools consider Chem1A/Chem3A as gen chem, Chem3B/MCB102 as organic chem.

If you already took AP Classes for Chem and Calc, your schedule should be fine.

make sure Haas required the Math 1 series. If they don’t, then take the 16 series

1 & 16 series is fine with Haas, but MCB is 1 series strictly.

premed takes 16 though…

Also, if you have AP scores that get you out of 1A-B, MCB will take that for major declaration purposes.

Friendly warning: Going on the MCB bandwagon for premed will drive your GPA off the cliff. MCB is NOT the premed major, Berkeley has no designated premed major and med schools do not care what your major is. They view all majors as equal even though some may be more difficult than others. Minus chem bio, MCB is the hardest biology major.

Thanks for the info guys; regardless of MCB I would have to take Chem and math and what not for the application to med school.

med schools look at math 16 as equal to math 1

Looks like sophomore year you will need a take A LOT of Haas pre-reqs with that schedule since you really aren’t getting that many out of the way. Try adding another class where you can.

Shah, Spring 09 has Phil 7, Existentialism in Literature and Film. You might be interested in it, I know I am, more than in Phil 6.

I was thinking of taking ugba during spring replacing philos and I think I’m left with econ and stats… Correct me of ugba is only fall.

My only reason for philo6 is the famous prof, otherwise I was planing on taking an AC class. Have you taken both classes? What have you liked? Thanks!

Well I’m a prospective freshman, so I haven’t taken any classes yet :)

However, as I understand things the professor only reads the lectures and any classes are taken care of by GSIs. Correct me if I’m wrong but when you’re an undergrad, especially lower division, the fame of your professor is quite irrelevant (although his/her curve is lol).

Yea but what I mean by the fame is that the prof is probably a master in his or her field thus making the class even more enriching, both classes seem interesting but philo6 fullfills a haas requirement
