Is it true that the interview scheduling deadline is this week? Or is it okay if I submit my app by January and wait for them to contact me?

I want to know about this too!

Here is the way interviewing works:

When your application is submitted, your name and some relevant information (address, email, high school, academic interests and extra curricular and sports activities) is put in a database for alumni. Every geographic area has an alumni “chair” who logs onto this database, sees only the names of applicants in his/her geo area, and then assigns each student to an alumni interviewer. An email to the interviewer is generated.

The alumni interviewer then logs onto the database, accesses the name of the student, and contacts the student for an interview.

The goal is to interview 100% of applicants (more than 95% of ED applicants were interviewed). The system is different for many private schools – I have no idea how they work, so don’t ask.

So, there is no one week when interviews are assigned. As you can see from my description, when you get interviewed largely depends on how diligent both the alumni chair and the alumni interviewer are. Some chairs check the database daily, others weekly, others every now and then. And the interviewers may make interview appointments immediately after getting the names, or may wait a couple weeks until it better fits their schedules (like, after the holidays).

The deadline for submitting interview write ups is Feb. 15. So don’t get worried until Feb. 1.

Hope that all helps.

When you say interview write ups, what do you mean? How does the interviewer go about reporting back to the chair? Do they say stuff like, “yes, i recommend this applicant strongly?”

explain please!!

A thank-you would have been appreciated, as opposed to an order. Flattery gets you everywhere.

On the website, there is a form for each applicant. Interviewers answer some questions about the applicant; how much they write depends on the interviewer. I’m not going to post the questions, but if you search this forum enough, you’ll find them. They have nothing to do with SAT scores or GPA. After completing the write-up, the interviewer presses the send button, and off it goes to admissions. The chair has nothing to do with it after s/he makes the assignment, other than making sure the interview is done.

Thank you very much fireandrain! You have alleviated my fears
It’s greatly appreciated.

Btw, does Brown have on-campus interviews as well?

Hey glad I saw this! Was wondering how it worked…good to know that the whole process is automatic. But I’m an international applicant anyway, probably no alumni by me.
