So my senior year I was planning on taking. AP Bio as well as Calc. However, they both only have one class and go on at the same time. I wanted to take Bio because I am interested in it and may want to pursue it as a career. Calc I also wanted to take because I like math and I know that colleges like to see that you take it all throughout highschool. Which should I take? Not that I can’t take both I don’t have enough credits for the year… I can take AP Stats or some other random electives. There are other AP science classes, however I am only interested in bio.
I can also take AP Spanish as a replacement. I just don’t know if I should take AP Bio or Calc, both are pretty important!!
To be honest, if you’re thinking of a major in Bio, I would suggest taking the AP Calc class.
Take your major classes in college, not as APs. I think you’re more likely to get more out of them in a college setting.
But school starts in the next week or so-- isn’t it kind of late to be choosing your courses?
Thanks! But I would still need to fill that spot with another class and all the other science classes are pointless for me to take. Maybe AP Enviormental?
What sounds most interesting to you? What would you like to learn???
And wouldn’t AP Calc fill the spot?
What will your major be?
I wouldn’t take AP Spanish. If you’re pretty fluent, take the Spanish CLEP exam from Collegeboard.
I’m not totally sure. I am thinking about sports medicine to become an athletic trainer. Yes AP Calc would fill the class, however I don’t think I could do AP Calc. Though I like math, I pull B’s and low A’s in regular math classes.
Would it look bad to do AP Bio and AP Stats, and no clac? But I know Calc is important!
I agree with @bjkmom I agree to take calculus . Take your major courses at college.
Yes school starts next week. We picked out our classes at the end of the year, but just received our schedules yesterday and I am just being told I cannot take both. Thanks for all the comments!!
I recommend taking some mathematics. At most colleges, if you major in biology, you will still need to take calculus, or have AP credit for it. The most common reason that students run into difficulty with math in college is that they have interrupted their study of mathematics. AP stat might keep you in the mathematical loop enough to cover it, though. Also, AP stat will be very useful for a bio major in college.
In your circumstances, unless you are in an exceedingly difficult academic environment, I would probably suggest AP Bio and AP Stat, assuming that you can take both of those.
Take the calculus.
If you’re going to major in bio, much better to take the full bio sequence at college.

Well, then maybe AP Stats would be fine, too. What is your intended major? Doesn’t sound like Bio. Sounds more like kinesiology.
Can you take regular Calculus?
Which AP Calc is this? AB or BC? If it’s BC and you’re not that strong, then BC may not be a good choice.
I was planning on just taking regular Calc along with AP Bio (I also wanted to take bio to see if I even liked it before I decide to go further in college), but I can’t do that due to scheduling problems. I think any AP Calc is out of the question based on my abilities. So now I think my options are to take bio and stats. Or Calc and then some other class, just not Bio.
I am also interested in nursing, sorry I am all over the place! I hope this is making sense.
I would make sure you have Calculus. With the types of majors you are considering, I think you would be behind without. How about AP Chemistry? Does that fit in your schedule?
If you can take regular Calc and AP bio that would probably be the best choice. You do not have to accept the AP credit at most colleges–you can still take the college bio. Often college bio is quite different from AP Bio, even though I think they have revised AP bio to make it more like most college bio classes.
Is it AP Calc AB or AP Calc BC? AB is (imo) much easier than the same class in college – a semester of college calculus spread over an entire school year, so essentially half-speed. It is particularly a great class for students who have completed pre-calc but who are not the strongest in math. In high school you have the same teacher teaching every day. At many colleges, those intro calc classes are offered in larger lectures, and at many larger universities, with first-year (inexperienced) teaching assistants leading the recitation sections twice a week.
AP Environmental Science could be very good as an option especially for someone who might ultimately be interested in biology.
I cannot take regular Calc and AP Bio, due to scheduling which stinks… Would it be bad if I took AP Bio and stats? I mean I can possibly take AP clac with the bio but my grade may suffer… I really don’t know!!!
Turns out I cannot take AP Calc AB with bio either, they conflict. And I definitely cannot to BC Calc.
