Scholars Program

I got accepted to a scholars program and it says to register by March 1, 2011. However, scholarships are released mid-March to April. If I register, can I still back out if I can’t afford to go to UMCP?

Yes, because the deposit is refundable until May.

You will not register for classes until June/July, all you are doing is holding a spot in case you are going to matriculate.

Big difference.

I think back yrs ago, the deposit was not due until April, RD decisions come out in March and that plays into the equation.

Awesome thanks
Does that mean that the RD people can’t do scholars, etc.

Both Honors and Scholars require that students apply by the Nov. 1 to be considered for those programs.

@Bulletandpima That is not correct. The deposit is non-refundable no matter what after it is submitted

They’ve changed it every year. Is the March 1 date for saying which Scholars program you are interested in? If so, that form goes back to the Scholars office specifically—I think in the past you could specify a scholars program without committing the $$$ to UMD for general registration. Check into that on the websites for Scholars.

The interest inventory / confirmation for Scholars is independent from the enrollment deposit (which goes towards tuition for the fall semester). Submit the inventory by March 1, regardless of whether or not you’re sure about going to UMD, and just make sure to pay the enrollment deposit (and confirm your admission) by May 1 if you do decide to go to UMD.
