<p>How big of an advantage do emory scholars have over “non-scholar” emory students? I know that they get priority for classes, dorms, and a huge tuition break. But, for example, at schools like UGA, honors students have a big advantage over other students in terms of getting special opportunities like internships, one on one meetings with the deans and important guest speakers, etc. Is Emory the same way? Also, do non-scholar kids have a chance of getting into the ivy grad schools? Because ive heard that at most schools with honors programs it is mainly (with a few exceptions of course) the honors students that get into the top-notch grad schools.<br>

<p>The short answer is no. Emory Scholars is not an honors program like at big state schools. Everyone takes the same classes, with the same professors. There aren’t programs that are scholars-only, as far as prestigious speakers or classes or anything along those lines (that I’m aware of). Certainly in my four years, I cannot even think of an event that was scholars-only that I wanted to go to particularly. It seemed to me that there were some receptions and things, but nothing else that would have changed one’s Emory experience. </p>

<p>Unless I’m mistaken (I wasn’t a scholar), there’s little difference in resources for scholars. I think they might have access to funding for research, but other than that, there’s not much more than what you’ve described. Though the money is awesome.</p>

<p>As a non-scholar, it’s quite possible to get grants to do research, if you need to travel or whatever, but it doesn’t seem particularly necessary. Most research at the UG level can be done using the labs and resources available on campus, without needing a grant, from my experience and those of my friends. Although I would recommend applying for the Emory Scholar program, not being accepted as a scholar will not inhibit you in any way academically. </p>

<p>Obviously, if anyone has information that I don’t, please post. I wasn’t an Emory Scholar, so I might have missed something?</p>

<p>You need to apply in a separate form and get nomination from your high school counselor. </p>

<p>It’s too late for you. You apply for Emory Scholars in November of your senior year when you apply for admission. You can get in later on, though. I think it’s the Dean’s Achievement Scholarship, or something like that.</p>

<p>People mainly apply as Emory scholars simply because they love Emory and they also want the competitive merit scholarships that come with it.</p>

<p>oh its scholarship? i thought it was a quasi honors program…whatever me being clueless means i wouldnt have gotten in there anyway haha</p>
