I’ve been googling Christopher Gray for the last 15 minutes or so. I can’t find a list of the scholarships he was awarded. Over and over, I read that he was awarded 35 scholarships totaling 1.3 million. That’s an average of $37k per scholarship. He won the Gates Millenium and the Coca Cola, but where’s all that other money coming from? Obviously Gates and Coke are impressive, but I suspect the big numbers came from colleges themselves or they’d be listed. Also, Gray qualified for the Pell grant, so I’m wondering how much of that money he was awarded was actually financial aid from colleges themselves?

Still, 99 cents is cheap. I suspect if you’re a good student, a URM, and qualify for financial aid, this app will be well worth it. I can’t help but feel that my own kid will be wasting her money, even if it is only 99 cents. We’ve got a few non-need based scholarships for which she’ll be applying, but they’re mostly $500 or less.
