Ok, here’s my question. S, a hs junior, is looking at small private lac’s, and as I start to look at the websites for the names on his list, it appears that a few of these schools (more than a few?) the number of females outweighs the number of males. At one school the ratio is 35% male/65% female. For what I would call discretionary scholarships, would it up your chances of being selected (at these schools) if you are male? Would they (all things being equal) give you money just to get their numbers up and increase the balance?

Just curious.

I know that several schools have admitted that they are interested in more of a balance between the sexes- especially in schools like Vassar, that used to be women only.
Ive heard that academically, it can be more difficult for entrance for a female, but I haven’t really heard of offering males larger grants to get them to attend.

Thanks. That was going to be my next question, ie, with the more selective schools would it increase his chances of getting in. AGH! I don’t know why, but his whole life has been like this, surrounded by women. I sent him to an all boys hs just to get some male socialization. Probably it’s cause he’s into theater and music, I guess.

Thanks for the response.
