How typical is it for a D1 school to only offer whatever FA is needed for the first 2 years, but then give only athletic scholarship money for the final two years? The scholarship amount would be greater than the FA was, and up to 100% of the tuition, and room and board. The projected athletic scholarship amount would be put in writing after the official visit in the form of a good faith agreement. The coach said they can’t combine types of aid any longer, though they used to. They are close to their NCAA-allowed maximum, and won’t have money freed up until after two years. Also, this is how they now run things—they reward performance the first two years.
