S and I are having this discussion so I’m taking it here. There is an outside scholarship $1000 for freshman year only from a local organization for a student who plans to major in one of three broad areas. S has been accepted to his university in a major that is not one of the broad areas, but even before seeing the scholarship had been strongly considering changing to one of the areas included. So he is basically “undecided” when it comes to major. He is worried that if he doesn’t major in one of those areas they will ? - demand it back, shame him on social media, I’m not sure what. I think as long as he honestly is considering the other major, it will be ok and they will not follow up and see what he’s majoring in after sophomore year. He would answer the one or two short essay questions about career plans with undecided but about his interest in x major/field. Apply for the scholarship or not?
Be honest…and understand that kids who are definitely committed to one of those three majors are more likely to get this award.
Go for it. DD tailors her responses to what they are looking for, while still being honest. For example, one scholarship said it was for applicants going in-state. She is going out of state but explained why and still got it.
