Scholarship Opportunities

Many applicants state they’re only interested in the most elite schools because, “I need a lot of aid.” There are scholarships available to other schools as well. Many are endowed, which means that those funds must be used for scholarships; they can’t be used for other purposes. Some of them are merit scholarships, which may be available for a middle class applicant. I think the CC prep admissions community collectively knows a great deal about available scholarships. Please post in this thread any scholarships you know of, or have come across.

I’ll start off. Boarding School Review lists schools offering Merit Scholarships, [Merit Scholarships for Boarding School - Boarding School Review](Merit Scholarships for Boarding School). CC posters may know more details. If so, please post details, as this is only a list of schools:

This is a thread from last year, about the Davis Scholarships for international students: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/prep-school-admissions/457058-lawrenceville-school-increases-financial-aid-opportunities-international-students.html?highlight=scholarship</a>. Participating schools are Lawrenceville, Andover, Taft, Emma Willard, and Westminster.

Portsmouth Abbey, [Portsmouth Abbey School - Admissions - Tuition & Financial Aid](http://www.portsmouthabbey.org/page/1707/):

Diman Scholarship
The Reverend Hugh Diman Scholarship has been established to honor the founder and first headmaster of the School. The prestigious merit-based grant is awarded each year to one boarding student entering Form III (grade 9). The recipient receives a full scholarship equaling the annual tuition, room, and board that will be renewed each year of the student’s career at Portsmouth, subject to a satisfactory assessment by the Merit Scholarship Committee.

Abbey Scholarships
Boarding and Day candidates in all Forms are eligible to be selected as Abbey Scholars. As many as 10 highly qualified students each year will be awarded Abbey Scholarships. Scholarships for boarding students are awarded in the range of $3,500 to $12,000. Day students range from $2,500 to $8,000 scholarships. Abbey Scholars are not precluded from obtaining additional financial assistance should the family qualify for financial aid.

Here is another thread from this time last year, listing several generous merit scholarships: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/prep-school-admissions/446293-merit-scholarships-available.html?highlight=scholarship</a>.</p>

Most of them seem to be for 9th and 10th graders… Which of them are the least competive and for the above grades?

tiger_max22, I have no idea which one is the least competitive. It depends on the number of students applying for the scholarship, and that will vary each year. The one sure way to to receive a scholarship is not to apply, however.

At random, I Googled “Peddie School Merit Scholarship,” and discovered this:
